Herpes zoster is caused by reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus (VZV), typically occurring in older adults or immunocompromised individuals, and is rarely seen in infants. We report a rare case of herpes zoster in a 9-month-old infant, likely due to intrauterine exposure to VZV. The patient presented with dermatomally distributed vesicular lesions on the left anterior chest and back. Treatment included intravenous acyclovir, oral antiviral therapy, semiconductor laser therapy, boric acid compresses, and traditional Chinese herbal fumigation.

METHODS: A population-based case-control study that included 319 MND cases (64% male/36% female) recruited through the New Zealand MND Association complemented with hospital discharge data, and 604 controls identified from the Electoral Roll. For each job held, a questionnaire collected information on 11 exposure categories (dust, fibres, tobacco smoke, fumes, gas, fumigants, oils/solvents, acids/alkalis, pesticides, other chemicals and animals/animal products).

The paper presents results of experiments with fumigation of different concentrations of SO2 on Flamulina velutipes, Nematoloma fasciculare, and Pleurotus ostreatus. All the three concentrations of SO2, 84, 168, and 1.680 microgram/m3, had inhibitory effect on the growth of the fungi species. The inhibitory effect on the growth of the fungi species. Ethylene-di-bromide is a popular fumigant. Delayed long-term effects of this chemical include carcinogenicity and genotoxicity in animals. Only a few cases of acute ethylene-di-bromide toxicity have been reported and all of them have resulted in a fatal outcome. We report the first case of ethylene-di-bromide poisoning presenting with acute renal failure and toxic hepatitis that was managed successfully.

BACKGROUND: Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita) are one of the main pathogens affecting agricultural production. Conventional fumigants like methyl bromide have been phased out because of environmental risks, while alternatives face challenges of soil toxicity and resistance evolution. This study aims to develop a novel microencapsulated dual-agent system combining allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) and avermectin B2 (AVB2) for sustainable nematode control.

Whole grain and legumes, milled and low-fat products, spices, citrus fruit, and dry beverage ingredients are leached with purified, acidified acetone-water solutions. Portions of these leachates are then back-extracted with purified isooctane. Liquid beverages are directly extracted with the isooctane. Six to 10 microL of each isooctane extract is then screened for 11 fumigant residues by gas chromatography (GC) using electron-capture and Hall electroconductivity detectors, and dual 20% OV-101 columns.
