Clostridium sordellii is gram positive anaerobic spore forming rod and it has been demonstrated to cause gas gangrene, refractory shock, leukemoid reaction, and pleuroperitoneal effusion due to capillary leak. We report here a case of postpartum female who presented with leukemoid reaction, ascites, pleural effusion, and shock without fever 7 days after normal vaginal home delivery.

In a man with osteoarthritis of the knee, Actinomyces naeslundii septic arthritis developed after intra-articular injection of hyaluronate. Actinomyces is an anaerobic Gram-positive rod. The outcome was favorable after treatment with two antibiotics and arthroscopy. The nature of the organism and its location to a joint are unusual features of this case, which illustrates the need to search for a septic complication before accepting a diagnosis of inflammation related to hyaluronate injection.

The clinical efficacy of norfloxacin (NFLX) was evaluated on 40 patients. Two grams of cefmenoxime (CMX) was administered by one-shot intravenous injection to the patients in normal pressure hydrocephalus without meningitis, and the transference of CMX into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from blood was investigated. Actinotignum schaalii (formerly Actinobaculum schaalii) is a Gram-positive, facultative anaerobic rod that is typically involved in urinary tract infections in elderly patients or those with underlying urological pathologies. In contrast, abscess formation caused by A. schaalii is very rare. We present a case of multiple abscesses in the perineal area in a young patient with hidradenitis suppurativa associated with A. schaalii and Prevotella melaninogenica and review the relevant literature on the topic.

We report a case of mycetoma caused by Rhodococcus in a 62-year-old man who presented with multiple draining sinuses of the left foot. Biopsy specimen showed granulomatous reaction and microabcesses contained granules. These granules were composed by rod and coccoid Gram-positive and partially acid-fast elements. Culture grew a 'Nocardia-like organism', confirmed at the Center for Disease Control as Rhodococcus spp.
