Oral diseases are a burden for developing countries such as India where owing to socioeconomic conditions cost is a factor in selecting the type of treatment. Dental care in India is provided at various levels of care including standalone clinics run by individual dental surgeons, multi-speciality dental centres providing specialist care under one roof including paediatric, prosthodontics, and so on and dental centres affiliated with hospitals having facilities for provision of operation theatre and anaesthesia services. Most dental procedures are performed as day-care procedures requiring loc

Implementation and Postoperative Management of Continuous Adductor Canal Catheters for Total Knee Arthroplasty to Reduce Surgical Backlog Related to the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Acute Pain Service Nursing Perspective and Educational Resource.

PURPOSE: In response to the surgical backlog created by the COVID-19 pandemic and to spare valuable hospital resources, we developed and implemented a continuous adductor canal catheter (CACC) program for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients. CACC's offer superior analgesia, decrease opioid use, and increase patient satisfaction while simultaneously promoting a decreased length of hospital stay and even same day discharges. The implementation of analgesia protocols using continuous peripheral nerve catheters and isometric pumps has been described for other surgical procedures and populations

Unintended consequences of methadone regulation for opioid use disorder treatment among hospitalized patients.

BACKGROUND: In the United States, there are no federal restrictions on the use of methadone to manage opioid withdrawal symptoms when patients are hospitalized with a medical or surgical condition other than addiction. In contrast, in an outpatient setting, methadone for opioid use disorder (OUD) is highly regulated by federal and state governments and can only be dispensed from an opioid treatment program (OTP). Discrepancies in regulatory requirements across these settings may lead to barriers in care for patients with OUD. OBJECTIVE: Identify how methadone regulation impacts the care of pa

Preferences for palliative care services for patients with advanced cancer from the demand-supply perspective: A multicenter discrete choice experiment.

BACKGROUND: Palliative care plays a critical role in improving quality of life for patients with life-limiting illnesses. Despite increasing global policy attention, the design and uptake of palliative-care services remain constrained by limited understanding of how different stakeholders, particularly healthcare providers and patients, value service attributes. OBJECTIVE: To examine similarities and differences in preferences for palliative-care services between providers and patients with advanced cancer from a dual supply-demand perspective. DESIGN: A cross-sectional stated-preference stu

Diversity-sensitive palliative and hospice care in Germany - awareness, attitudes, and measures taken by service providers.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown that needs and expectations concerning palliative and hospice care differ in relation to patients' diversity characteristics. Patients from minority groups may encounter various barriers that can prevent them from using or receiving appropriate, high-quality care. While corresponding measures and approaches exist that aim to address the diversity of patients, it is currently unclear, to what extent they are utilized by German palliative and hospice care facilities. METHODS: To examine the current state of sensitivity or responsiveness to diversity of German pall

Exploring the perspectives of people who use drugs living with hepatitis C on interactions with case managers: A qualitative study in Taiwan.

BACKGROUND: Comorbidity treatment for people who use drugs with hepatitis C should be integrated with addiction treatment. However, studies exploring the perspectives of people who use drugs living with hepatitis C on their interactions with case managers remain limited. OBJECTIVE: To explore the perspectives of people who use drugs with hepatitis C receiving case management services on their interactions

Universal Psychosocial Screening in Hospitalized Pediatric Patients: A Randomized Control Trial.

IntroductionA validated psychosocial self-screening tool, MyHEARTSMAP, was used to screen hospitalized children, who often experience disproportionate mental health burdens. Secondarily, we explored the utilization of resources at 3 months post-discharge.MethodsThis randomized control trial was conducted in an emergency department, enrolling 289 children being admitted. The intervention group completed MyHEARTSMAP, and results were shared with

Experiences of swallowing and communication after nasopharyngeal cancer in Malaysian men: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) is a relatively common cancer in Malaysia, particularly in men, but there is little research exploring its impact from the perspective of patients. This study sought to highlight experiences from the perspectives of male patients receiving treatment for NPC in Malaysia in relation to swallowing and communication. METHODS: Nine males with NPC (age range 49–73) were recruited from a single hospital in Malaysia. Individual interviews were conducted by a trained undergraduate research assistant and guided by a semi-structured interview guide. Transcribed dat

Upscaling cervical cancer screening and treatment for women living with HIV at a rural referral hospital in Tanzania: protocol of a before-and-after study exploring HPV testing and novel diagnostics.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer (CC) is nearly always caused by persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. It is the most common cancer among women living with HIV (WLWH) and is the leading cause of cancer-related death in women in East Africa, with 10,241 new cases reported in Tanzania in 2020. In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) presented a global strategy for the elimination of CC as a public health problem, proposing targets to meet by 2030 for HPV vaccine coverage (90% of all 15-year-old girls), CC screening (70% of all women once at 35 and again at 45 years of age) and treatme

Research Priorities for Nursing and Allied Health: A Priority-Setting Project Using a Partnership Approach.

BACKGROUND: Research priorities guide research activities, funding and resources within health services. To ensure that research efforts are meaningful and impactful, it is vital that organisational research agendas reflect the priorities of both healthcare consumers and staff, alongside broader national and international research frameworks. This paper outlines a research priority-setting project conducted across two hospitals in Western Australia, aimed at identifying shared research priorities through a collaborative and inclusive approach. AIM: To identify the top ten nursing and allied h
