We describe an immunodeficient adult with Ogilvie's syndrome preceding a disseminated papulovesicular skin rash in whom varicella-zoster virus infection was demonstrated by PCR assay in cutaneous and colonic biopsy specimens. In view of the significant morbidity and mortality that this condition carries, early and accurate molecular diagnosis and timely treatment are strongly recommended.

Here presented is an extremely rare case of a spinal osteomyelitis (L5-S1) with epidural empyema in a non-immunocompromised 62-year-old man caused by Yersinia enterocolitica O:9. The infection occurred acutely and required immediate surgical treatment. Y. enterocolitica was cultured from the empyema fluid, wound swabs of the intervertebral disc L5-S1 and stool cultures. Following the surgical decompression and antibiotic treatment, the patient recovered completely, without neurological deficits. A 32-yr-old woman with active systemic lupus erythematosus receiving prednisone and azathioprine developed lung abscesses of the right lower lobe caused by Pseudomonas pseudomallei, which was resistant concomitantly to chloramphenicol, co-trimoxazole, and tetracycline, but highly sensitive to a new cephalosporin, ceftazidime. CASE: A 73-year-old immunocompromised male presented with recurrent left elbow swelling due to Mycobacterium avium intracellulare complex (MAC) olecranon bursitis. 3 years after completing MAC treatment, he underwent right total knee arthroplasty (TKA). 1 year later, he developed TKA pain and swelling and was diagnosed with MAC prosthetic joint infection (PJI). He underwent TKA resection, reimplantation, and 12 months of anti-MAC therapy. This patient is the seventh case report of MAC olecranon bursitis and the third case report of MAC PJI.
