Directed coherence of EEG on ICSS rats with methamphetamine-induced hyperactivity and stereotyped behavior.

Methamphetamine (MAP) can reinforce intracranial self-stimulation (ICSS) in rats, that is, reward-seeking behavior. However, the ICSS can be inhibited by the stereotyped behavior induced by MAP. This study was designed to observe the mutual information flow between prefrontal cortex (PFC) and ventral tegmental area (VTA) using directed coherence (DC) analysis during the hyperactivity and stereotyped behavior induced by administration of MAP (a derivative of amphetamine). The DC from PFC to VTA increased at 5-7 Hz in the hyperactivity as compared to the stereotypy. In contrast, enhanced informa

Sexuality Education in the Digital Era: Intrinsic and Extrinsic Predictors of Online Sexual Information Seeking Among Youth.

This study aimed to identify demographic, intrinsic and extrinsic predictors of youth's online sexual information seeking. We used survey data from a large, representative sample of youth (12-24 years) in the Netherlands (N = 20,500). We focused on online sexual information seeking in general, and on two specific types of online sources: interactive user-generated content (UGC) and professional sexuality education content. Findings suggested that LGB youth and youth with more sexual knowledge were more likely to consult sexual information online, both via UGC and via professional websites abou

Employing the arts for knowledge production and translation: Visualizing new possibilities for women speaking up about safety concerns in maternity.

OBJECTIVES: This project used animated film to translate research findings into accessible health information aimed at enabling women to speak up and secure professional help for serious safety concerns during pregnancy and after birth. We tested as proof of concept our use of the arts both as product (knowledge production) and process (enabling involvement). BACKGROUND: Emergencies during pregnancy and birth, while unusual, can develop rapidly and unexpectedly, with catastrophic consequences. Women's tacit knowledge of changes in their condition is an important resource to aid early detectio

Four New Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Examining Health-Seeking Behavior in Persons With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (REDD-CAT): Instrument Development Study.

BACKGROUND: The management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) includes mastery of complex care activities, self-management skills, and routine health care encounters to optimize glucose control and achieve good health. Given the lifelong course of T2DM, patients are faced with navigating complex medical and disease-specific information. This health-seeking behavior is a driver of health disparities and is associated with hospitalization and readmission. Given that health-seeking behavior is a potentially intervenable social determinant of health, a better understanding of how people navigate t

Myopic Loss Aversion under Ambiguity and Gender Effects.

Experimental evidence suggests that the frequency with which individuals get feedback information on their investments has an effect on their risk-taking behavior. In particular, when they are given information sufficiently often, they take less risks compared with a situation in which they are informed less frequently. We find that this result still holds when subjects do not know the probabilities of the lotteries they are betting upon. We also detect significant gender effects, in that the frequency with which information is disclosed mostly affects male betting behavior, and that males bec

MyBackPain-evaluation of an innovative consumer-focused website for low back pain: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Despite the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) worldwide, many people with the condition do not receive evidence-based care or achieve the best possible outcomes. There is a gap in the dissemination of evidence-based information across the globe. The advent of the internet has changed the way people obtain health information. As such, trustworthy, tailored and validated LBP resources may help bridge the gap. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of a new website (MyBackPain) in improving spinal health literacy, treatment preferences and clinical outcomes for people with LBP

The pathway to consultation for rheumatoid arthritis: exploring anticipated actions between the onset of symptoms and face-to-face encounter with a healthcare professional.

BACKGROUND: When people first experience symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) they often delay seeking medical attention resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment. This research assesses behaviours people might engage in prior to, or instead of, seeking medical attention and compares these with behaviours related to illnesses which are better publicised. METHODS: Thirty-one qualitative interviews with members of the general public explored intended actions in relation to two hypothetical RA vignettes (with and without joint swelling) and two non-RA vignettes (bowel cancer and angina). Understanding health-seeking behavior toward dengue fever is crucial for early diagnosis and timely treatment to mitigate fatal outcomes. In this paper, a concept analysis based on Walker and Avant's method was performed to define health-seeking behaviors regarding dengue fever. This behavior was defined as a series of actions increasing awareness, promoting preventive measures, facilitating informed health decisions, and ensuring timely access to medical care. This concept analysis clarified how awareness, preventive measures, and access to care influence health-seeking behaviors. Our analysi
