Social media as an information source for pediatric musculoskeletal infections: a quality analysis of English language content.

Social media is an accessible information source for patients and families but data on its educational veracity for pediatric musculoskeletal infections are limited. We aim to explore this gap by quantifying information quality on three social media platforms for two infections: acute hematogenous osteomyelitis and septic arthritis. Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram were searched using the keywords 'acute hematogenous osteomyelitis' and 'septic arthritis'. Four raters with medical backgrounds evaluated posts using the modified DISCERN 16-point scoring system to quantify educational value. The i

Ritshidze's community-led monitoring system as a source of information on health system responsiveness in South Africa.

Ritshidze is a large-scale community-led monitoring (CLM) system in South Africa, which has been conducting quarterly surveys of patient experiences at >400 primary healthcare facilities and community sites since 2019. This in-practice piece examines the data collected and publicly reported by Ritshidze, to highlight its role as an independent, complementary source of information on primary healthcare performance. It argues that CLM has significant potential to enhance health system responsiveness. We provide an overview of the data collection system, involving close to 500 data points organis

Artificial intelligence large language model ChatGPT: is it a trustworthy and reliable source of information for sarcoma patients?

INTRODUCTION: Since its introduction in November 2022, the artificial intelligence large language model ChatGPT has taken the world by storm. Among other applications it can be used by patients as a source of information on diseases and their treatments. However, little is known about the quality of the sarcoma-related information ChatGPT provides. We therefore aimed at analyzing how sarcoma experts evaluate the quality of ChatGPT's responses on sarcoma-related inquiries and assess the bot's answers in specific evaluation metrics. METHODS: The ChatGPT responses to a sample of 25 sarcoma-relat

Directional information flow in patients with Alzheimer's disease. A source-space resting-state MEG study.

In a recent magnetoencephalography (MEG) study, we found posterior-to-anterior information flow over the cortex in higher frequency bands in healthy subjects, with a reversed pattern in the theta band. A disruption of information flow may underlie clinical symptoms in Alzheimer's disease (AD). In AD, highly connected regions (hubs) in posterior areas are mostly disrupted. We therefore hypothesized that in AD the information flow from these hub regions would be disturbed. We used resting-state MEG recordings from 27 early-onset AD patients and 26 healthy controls. Using beamformer-based virtual

Scanning electron microscope analysis of gunshot defects to bone: an underutilized source of information on ballistic trauma.

Recent years have seen increasing involvement by forensic anthropologists in the interpretation of skeletal trauma. With regard to ballistic injuries, there is now a large literature detailing gross features of such trauma; however, less attention has been given to microscopic characteristics. This article presents analysis of experimentally induced gunshot trauma in animal bone (Bos taurus scapulae) using full metal jacket (FMJ), soft point (SP), and captive bolt projectiles. The results were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additional analysis was conducted on a purported p

The WHO Rabies Bulletin Europe: a key source of information on rabies and a pivotal tool for surveillance and epidemiology.

Rabies is one of the most, if not the most, prominent and feared zoonotic diseases in the world and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 55,000 people die of the disease every year. Most of these deaths occur in Asia and Africa and are usually the result of dog-mediated rabies. In Europe, the red fox is considered the main reservoir species for wildlife rabies caused by the rabies virus. Besides foxes, bats have also been identified as a reservoir for European bat lyssaviruses in many European countries. Here, the authors present the rabies surveillance data for Europe in recent

Anger and irritability symptoms among youth with ODD: cross-informant versus source-exclusive syndromes.

We examined differences in co-occurring psychological symptoms and background characteristics among clinically referred youth with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) with and without anger/irritability symptoms (AIS) according to either parent or teacher (source-exclusive) and both informants (cross-informant), youth with noncompliant symptoms (NS) of ODD, and non-ODD clinic controls. Parents and teachers evaluated 1127 youth (ages 6-18) with a DSM-IV-referenced rating scale to assess ODD and co-occurring psychological symptoms. Parents also completed a background questionnaire (demographic,

Co-occurring ODD and GAD symptom groups: source-specific syndromes and cross-informant comorbidity.

Despite important clinical and nosological implications, the comorbidity of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) has received little attention. A clinic-based sample of 243 boys (ages 6-10 years), their parents, and teachers participated in an evaluation that involved assessments of behavioral, academic, and family functioning. ODD and GAD symptom groups were defined using various combinations of mother and teacher reports. ODD symptom groups were associated with conduct disorder symptoms, and GAD symptom groups with major depressive disorder symptoms, reg

COVID-19 information sources, knowledge, attitude, control practices and the predictors among health workers during the pandemic in Ebonyi state, Nigeria.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed into an endemic COVID-19 disease and health workers continue to be at high risk. The situation requires continued use of COVID-19 control measures by health workers and this will likely depend on their sources of information/knowledge/attitude about COVID-19 and previous use of COVID-19 control measures. We explored the COVID-19 information sources, knowledge, attitude, control practices, and the predictors, among health workers in Ebonyi state, Nigeria. We implemented an online-offline analytical cross-sectional survey from March 12 to May 9, 2022 among all c…

A qualitative enquiry of health care workers' narratives on knowledge and sources of information on principles of Respectful Maternity Care (RMC).

Research from sub-Saharan Africa indicate that many women experience varied forms of disrespectful maternity care, which amount to a violation of their rights and dignity. Notably, there is little research that sheds light on health care workers (HCWs) training and knowledge of principles of respectful maternity care (RMC). Formulating appropriate interventional strategies to promote the respectful provision of services for women during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period requires an understanding of the current state of knowledge and sources of information on respectful maternity car
