Bilateral dorsal dislocations of the metatarsophalangeal joints of the great toes with a loose body in one of the metatarsophalangeal joints.

An unusual bilateral closed dorsal dislocation of the metatarsophalangeal joints of both great toes is described, and surgical treatment and outcome reported. The importance of postreduction X-rays is emphasized.

Synovial membrane-derived mesenchymal progenitor cells from osteoarthritic joints in dogs possess lower chondrogenic-, and higher osteogenic capacity compared to normal joints.

BACKGROUND: Synovial membrane-derived mesenchymal progenitor cells (SM-MPCs) are a promising candidate for the cell-based treatment of osteo … tri-lineage differentiation. METHODS: Normal and OA synovial membrane were collected from the knee joints of healthy dogs and dogs with rupture of the cruciate ligaments. The synovium was assessed by histopathological OARSI scoring and by RT-qPCR for inflammation/synovitis-related markers. The presence of cSM-MPCs in the native tissue was further charac …

Results of the Treatment of Carpo-metacarpal Joints Dislocations.

BACKGROUND: Carpometacarpal (CMC) joint dislocations are rare, accounting for less than 1% of all hand injuries. They result from direct high-energy blows to the hand, i.e. falls on the outstretched hand, falls from bicycles or punching one's fist against an object. The objective of this case-series study was to analyse the results of treatment of these injuries in 6 patients who presented to the author's institution. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In the 3-year period between 2021 and 2023, a total of 6 male patients, mean age of 39 years, with CMC joints dislocations were treated. Three patients had…

Bilateral eccrine angiomatous hamartomas of the proximal interphalangeal joints.

Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma is an uncommon, benign clinical entity constituting a nodular proliferation of eccrine glands and vascular structures localized to the dermis that typically present as unilateral, flesh-colored, erythematous, or violaceous papules on the extremities. These hamartomas may be associated with pain, hyperhidrosis, joint deformity, or functional impairment depending on the severity of the disease process. We present a case of bilaterally symmetric, asymptomatic eccrine angiomatous hamartomas involving all proximal interphalangeal joints of both hands. To date, there ar…

Coronal Movement during Flexion and Extension of Knee Joints.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

OBJECTIVE: There are variabilities in the distance between the tibial tuberosity and the trochlear groove. The knee angle needs to be considered when talking about patellofemoral instability. METHODS: This retrospective study analyses the MRI images of knee angles from 0 and 30 degrees in the patella dislocation group (20 cases) and in the control group (20 cases) from Dec 2017 to Dec 2019. Two experienced orthopedic physicians separately measure the study with a blind experiment method. RESULTS: The TT-TG data of the patella dislocation group and control group are 17.88 ± 3.40 mm and 13.31

TELEREHABILITATION OF THE KNEE JOINTS OF PATIENTS WITH POLYTRAUMA.

OBJECTIVE: The aim: The overarching theme of this paper is to discuss implementation of the telemedicine technology for rehabilitation of patients with injuries of the lower extremities. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: Consecutive patients were recruited over a four-year period. A total of 48 polytrauma patients with lower extremity injuries were enrolled in the study after the resolution of the surgical sequelae. 16 patients from the control group underwent traditional rehabilitation procedures for a 3-week period after injury. A total of 32 subjects were enrolled in the telereh

Initiation and progression of dental-stimulated temporomandibular joints osteoarthritis.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ), a site that is often impacted by osteoarthritis (OA), is biomechanically linked with dental occlusion. Tissue … central pathological process that links with cartilage decay and subchondral bone remodelling in OA joints. The residual chondrocytes locating in the cartilage superficial zone have the progenitor-like qualities that can proliferate, and also differentiate into the deep zone chondrocytes, thus should be critical in progression and rehabilitation of TMJ-O …

Failure Mechanisms of GFRP Scarf Joints under Tensile Load.

A potential repair alternative to restoring the mechanical properties of lightweight fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) structures is to locally patch these areas with scarf joints. The effects of such repair methods on the structural integrity, however, are still largely unknown. In this paper, the mechanical property restoration, failure mechanism, and influence of fiber orientation mismatch between parent and repair materials of 1:50 scarf joints are studied on monolithic glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) specimens under tensile load. Two different parent orientations of [-45/+45]2S and [0/…

Syncope and hypermobile joints: Not rare, but rarely diagnosed.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a chronic, debilitating condition characterized by heterogeneous symptoms, such as lightheadedness, palpitations, pre-syncope, syncope, and weakness or heaviness, especially of the legs. It is frequently associated with hypermobile joints or conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic abdominal pain, migraine headache, and diabetes mellitus. Described is a case of POTS, which though it is not rare, is rarely diagnosed. It can be diagnosed quickly with simple methods.

A Novel Underactuated Robotic Finger with Variable Stiffness Joints.

Existing robotic hands mostly consist of rigid finger mechanism with constant joint stiffness, leading to poor handling performance and even unexpected safety issues. This paper proposed a novel underactuated robotic finger with variable stiffness joints based on human finger anatomy and electrostatic adhesion(ESA) principle. The proposed finger is unique in the 3D printable one-piece body structure consisting of three similar joints, actuated by only one linear actuator to mimic the flexion/extension movement of the human finger. It is characterized by simple actuation, light weight, low cost…

Total knee arthroplasty using hinge joints: Indications and results.

Possible indications for a rotating hinge or pure hinge implant in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) include collateral ligament insufficiency, severe varus or valgus deformity (> 20°) with relevant soft-tissue release, relevant bone loss, including insertions of collateral ligaments, gross flexion-extension gap imbalance, ankylosis and hyperlaxity. The use of hinged implants in primary TKA should be limited to the aforementioned selected indications, especially for elderly patients.Potential indications for a rotating hinge or pure hinge implant in revision TKA include infection, aseptic l

Divergent dislocation of the carpometacarpal joints: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Divergent carpometacarpal joint dislocations of the fingers are very rare. Due to severe swelling and overlapping of bones on a radiograph of the wrist and hand, dislocations are missed. The purpose of this clinical case report is to highlight this unusual injury to avoid missing diagnosis. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 24-year-old Moroccan man, an athlete, who presented divergent carpometacarpal joint fracture-dislocations of the ulnar four fingers after a fall during a national cycling competition. Radiographs showed divergent dislocation and associated fractures. He

Ultrasound of sacroiliac joints in spondyloarthritis: a systematic review.

Ultrasound (US) is an accessible imaging technique with a possible role to diagnose active sacroiliitis, so this technique is projected as a promising diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of SpA. We analyse the available evidence about the use of US as a diagnostic tool in sacroiliitis in patients with SpA, by a systemic review of the literature fulfilling OMERACT criteria. A systematic literature search for original articles was carried out using four databases (Medline, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science). Data from studies were included only if participants had SpA and a US examination of sacro
