Antimicrobial activity of preparations after combined cultivation of lactic acid bacteria and yeast strains.

Use of antimicrobials in both human and animal populations over the past several decades has led to the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria populations that are resistant to many commercially available drugs. For example, acquired resistance to first-line antimicrobial agents increasingly complicates the management of extra-intestinal infections due to Escherichia coli, which are a major source of illness and death. The continued development of new classes of natural antimicrobial agents, possessing antibacterial activity, has become of increasing importance for medicine and veterinary.

Bacteriocins from Lactic Acid Bacteria Could Modulate the Wnt Pathway: A Possible Therapeutic Candidate for the Management of Colorectal Cancer- An In silico Study.

INTRODUCTION: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a type of cancer that develops due to abnormal cell growth in the colon and rectum. Existing conventional CRC treatment strategies have side effects. Hence, exploring new and advanced techniques for bacterial CRC therapy is crucial. Bacteriocins are peptides produced by bacteria, including lactic acid bacteria (LAB), that have bactericidal effects. In the present study, we have focused on searching for effective and safe bacteriocins from LAB as alternatives to clinical therapeutics for treating CRC, leaving healthy cells unaffected. METHODS: We select

Anti-listeria activity of newly isolated lactic acid bacteria from fermented foods and their application to smoked salmon(Coho).

The objective of this study was to evaluate the anti-listeria activities of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from Korean fermented foods and to assess the effect of fermentate (cells and cell-free supernatant [CFS]), CFS or cells in controlling L. monocytogenes on smoked salmon, packaged either in vacuum- and air-packaging. One L. lactis (CJNU3001) strain and two Enterococcus faecium (CJNU2524 and CJNU2008) strains appeared to have higher anti-listeria activity than the other 15 LAB strains. They also exhibited anti-listeria activity against 24 L. monocytogenes strains of various serotypes.

Lignocellulose degradation, enzymatic saccharification and bioethanol production from whole-crop sweet sorghum silage inoculated with feruloyl-esterase producing lactic acid bacteria.

Commercialization of cellulosic biofuels faces challenges like year-round feedstock availability and lignocellulose recalcitrance. This study ensiled whole-crop sweet sorghum biomass, inoculating it with feruloyl-esterase producing Lactiplantibacillus plantarum A1 to ensure consistent feedstock supply and promote lignin degradation during fermentation. The ensiled biomass underwent 72 h enzymatic saccharification followed by 96 h Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation for bioethanol production. Compared to uninoculated controls, L. plantarum A1 inoculation significantly reduced dry matter loss,

AFM1 exposure in male balb/c mice and intervention strategies against its immuno-physiological toxicity using clay mineral and lactic acid bacteria alone or in combination.

CONTEXT: Aflatoxins are the most harmful mycotoxins that cause human and animal health concerns. Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) is the primary hydroxylated metabolite of aflatoxin B1 and is linked to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma and immunotoxicity in humans and animals. Because of the important role of dairy products in human life, especially children, AFM1 is such a major concern to humans because of its frequent occurrence in dairy products at concentrations high enough to cause adverse effects to human and animal health. Reduced its bioavailability becomes a high priority in order to pr

Effect of Lactic Acid Bacteria-Derived Postbiotic Supplementation on Tuberculosis in Wild Boar Populations.

The Eurasian wild boar (Sus scrofa) is a key wildlife host for tuberculosis (TB) in central and southwestern Spain, posing a challenge to TB eradication in livestock. New strategies, including the use of beneficial microbes, are being explored to mitigate wildlife diseases. This study evaluated the effect of oral supplementation with postbiotic antimycobacterial metabolites produced using Ingulados' lactic acid bacteria (LAB) collection on TB development in wild boar. A total of 20 game estates in mid-western Spain were divided into two groups: one fed with standard feed containing the postbio

Antibiotic resistance in potential probiotic lactic acid bacteria of fermented foods and human origin from Nigeria.

INTRODUCTION: Probiotic lactobacilli are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) and are being used in several food and pharma formulations. However, growing concern of antibiotic resistance in bacterial strains of food origin and its possible transmission via functional foods is increasingly being emphasized. OBJECTIVES: This study screened potential probiotic lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains for their phenotypic and genotypic antibiotic resistance profiles. METHODS: Susceptibility to different antibiotics was assayed by the Kirby Bauer standard disc diffusion protocol. Both conventional and

Probiotic potential of lactic acid bacteria obtained from fermented curly kale juice.

The aim of the paper was to analyse changes in lactic acid bacteria (LAB) populations during spontaneous fermentation of green curly kale juice (Brasicca oleracea L. var. acephala L.) and to determine the probiotic potential of LAB isolates. The analyses revealed that changes in LAB populations were specific for spontaneously fermented vegetable juices. The initial microbiota, composed mostly of Leuconostoc mesenteroides bacteria, was gradually replaced by Lactobacillus species, mainly Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus sakei, and Lactobacillus coryniformis. Screening tests for the antimic

These changes contributed to improved intestinal barrier function, better metabolic processes, and stronger defense mechanisms, thereby ameliorating UC induced by 3% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in C57BL/6J mice. Synergistic effects of simultaneous and sequential fermentation by non-Saccharomyces yeasts and lactic acid bacteria on nutritional and aroma profiles of low-alcohol pomegranate beverages.

BACKGROUND: Mixed-culture fermentation improves polyphenol accumulation and aroma biosynthesis in fruit beverages through microbial synergism. The strain-specific and inoculation time-dependent effects of such synergism, however, remain unexplored in pomegranate beverage fermentation. RESULTS: Two indigenous non-Saccharomyces yeasts were combined with two lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains under simultaneous and sequential inoculation schemes. Physicochemical properties, organic acids, polyphenols, antioxidant capacity, and volatile aroma compounds were analyzed comprehensively. Sequential in
