Very Early Pulsed Dye Laser Intervention for Optimal Cosmetic Outcome in Post-Thyroidectomy Scars.

PURPOSE: Early intervention of surgical scars with a pulsed dye laser is known to effectively prevent pathologic scars. Despite multiple reports on the effectiveness of the treatment, very few studies have demonstrated its appropriate initiation timing. In this study, our objective was to determine the optimal timing for initiating laser treatment following thyroidectomy. METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed 91 patients undergoing pulsed dye laser treatment post-thyroidectomy, grouping them by treatment initiation timing. The patients underwent treatment at intervals of 3-4 weeks with

Non-invasive efficacy assessment of pulsed dye laser and photodynamic therapy for port-wine stain.

Port wine stain (PWS) is a congenital vascular malformation that commonly occurs on the face and neck. Currently, the main treatments for port wine stain are pulsed dye laser (PDL) and photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, the efficacy evaluation of PWS mostly relies on the subjective judgement of clinicians, and it is difficult to accurately respond to many small changes after treatment. Therefore, some non-invasive and efficient efficacy assessment methods are also needed. With the continuous development of technology, there are currently many visualisation instruments to evaluate PWS, includ

Pulsed dye laser and adjuvant topical therapies for the treatment of port-wine stains: A systematic review.

OBJECTIVES: The current gold standard treatment for port-wine stains (PWS) is pulsed dye laser (PDL). However, multiple treatment sessions may be necessary and complete resolution is often not achieved. Neoangiogenesis can occur soon after treatment and is thought to be a major factor contributing to treatment failure. Adjuvant antiangiogenic topical therapies may therefore improve the efficacy of pulsed dye laser treatment of port-wine stains. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and clinicaltrials.gov using "port-wine stain," "nevus

Combined pulsed-dye laser and medical therapy for treatment of cutaneous sarcoidosis lesions: a case report.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown etiology that most frequently occurs in the lungs. However, cutaneous lesions are often the primary sign. Cutaneous sarcoidosis is difficult to treat, although different therapies have been applied. We herein report a case in which cutaneous sarcoidosis was treated with pulsed-dye laser (PDL) therapy along with oral administration of acitretin and hydroxychloroquine; no topical medications were applied. All patient details are de-identified. The treatment areas gradually improved after several courses of PDL therapy. This case illustra

Efficacy of 595- and 1319-nm pulsed dye laser in the treatment of acne vulgaris: a narrative review.

Acne is one of the commonest problems of adolescence with almost half of the patients experiencing persistence into adulthood. Pulsed dye lasers (PDL) with wavelengths of 585 and 595 nm targeting hemoglobin have been used for the treatment of this condition and its sequelae. Recent introduction of PDL with a higher wavelength of 1319 nm has been reported to offer some benefit to acne patients. We reviewed the literature on the use of 595-nm and 1319-nm PDL in the management of acne. A PubMed literature search for search terms "pulsed dye laser," "acne laser therapy," "light therapy for acne,"

To test or not to test: A study examining the return rates of rosacea patients treated with a pulsed dye laser.

Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is an effective treatment option for erythematotelangiectatic rosacea. The use of a test spot allows patients to experience the procedure on a small area prior to further treatment. The purpose of this study was to elucidate whether the use of a no charge test spot influenced return rates for further PDL treatment. Data were obtained retrospectively using International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 codes for rosacea. Sixty charts were identified: 26 patients initially received a PDL test area free of charge, whereas 34 patients initially underwent full PDL treatmen

Pulsed dye laser treatment of rosacea using a novel 15 mm diameter treatment beam.

BACKGROUND: The pulsed-dye laser has been used to treat facial redness and rosacea for decades. Recent advances in dye laser technology enable 50% higher output energies supporting 50% larger treatment areas, and beam-diameters up to 15 mm with clinically-relevant fluences. In this study, we investigate this novel pulsed-dye laser using a 15 mm diameter beam for treatment of rosacea. METHODS: Twenty subjects with erythemato-telangiectatic rosacea were enrolled in the study. A total of 4 monthly treatments were administered, first treating linear vessels with a 3 × 10 mm elliptical beam, then

Controlled seeding of laser deposited Ta:TiO2 nanobrushes and their performance as photoanode for dye sensitized solar cells.

Hexagonal patterned indium tin oxide (ITO) with a height of 1.5 μm was fabricated on fluorinated SnO2 (FTO) substrate via nanoimprint lithography and pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Tantalum doped TiO2 was deposited on the patterned substrate by PLD. The film of Ta:TiO2 grew vertically and separately on the patterned ITO and formed a brush-like structure. Dye-sensitized solar cells with the Ta:TiO2 film deposited on the patterned substrate as well as flat FTO substrate for comparison were fabricated and tested. The device with the patterned substrate showed a 25% increase in short circuit curre

Single treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers using a pulsed-dye laser with stacked pulses.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Non-melanoma skin cancers are the most common cause of cancer worldwide. Within this grouping, the most common skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma (BCC) followed by squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Recent evidence has shown that BCCs can be cleared by a pulsed-dye laser after multiple treatments using a single pass setting. Given the necessity for multiple treatments in the prior studies, we sought to determine whether tumor clearance could instead be achieved using a single treatment of the pulsed-dye laser in a stacked pulse setting. Effect of a single application of pulsed dye laser treatment of port-wine birthmarks on intraocular pressure.

BACKGROUND: A new pathophysiologic mechanism has been proposed that indicates that periorbital port-wine birthmarks (PWBs) serve as alternate collateral blood passageways when orbital venous drainage is impaired. The occlusion of such collateral venous channels could, therefore, potentially exacerbate impaired ocular venous flow and trigger the development or worsening of glaucoma in patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome. We investigated to what extent a single application of laser therapy, which occludes only the most superficial portions of a facial PWB, might affect intraocular pressure. Pres
