A selected series of primary malignant melanoma of the skin, clinical stage I, was studied. The series includes 37 lentigo maligna melanomas, 301 superficial spreading malignant melanomas, 194 nodular malignant melanomas and 137 unclassifiable malignant melanomas. Dermal solar elastosis was graded. The most common finding was lack of solar elastosis which together with slight elastosis was mostly found on the trunks of young men and on the legs of young women in cases of superficial spreading malignant melanoma. Positron emmision tomography (PET) is successfully used to monitor malignancies. Unfortunately it is not tumor specific. We present a case with history of rectum cancer and lentigo maligna who underwent PET-CT which revealed an increased uptake in the larynx. The authors reviewed 874 dermatology charts to assess the acceptance rate of total skin examination (TSE), incidental skin findings, and patient compliance regarding treatment recommendations. Of the 874 new dermatology patients studied, 707 (80.9%) agreed to TSE. Important incidental findings were found in 151 (21.4%). Mann et al. (2018) use recombinant human tyrosinase to screen for novel inhibitors of pigmentation. They develop thiamidol, a new thiazolyl-resorcinol derivative, that is a submicromolar tyrosinase inhibitor and effective for treating solar lentigines. Thiamidol and established inhibitors of pigmentation exhibit substantially different activities on human and mushroom tyrosinase, supporting use of the human enzyme in high-throughput screens.

BACKGROUND: Treatments for solar lentigines include topical and physical therapies, including chemical peels, lasers, intense pulsed light, and cryotherapy. A direct comparison of treatment methods and their efficacy is lacking.
OBJECTIVE: To compare treatment efficacy and adverse events for different treatment modalities for lentigines.
METHODS: Cochrane, MEDLINE, and Embase databases were searched on August 25, 2021. Studies were included if they met our predetermined population, intervention, comparator, outcomes, study design framework. Results are presented in narrative form.

Partial unilateral lentiginosis (PUL) is a rare pigmentary disorder characterized by multiple lentigines on otherwise normal skin affecting one side of the body. We report on a girl with an extensive form of bilateral lentiginosis with systematized segmental distribution and a unilateral congenital cataract. The arrangement of the lentigines is reminiscent of a checkerboard pattern. The benign condition is discussed in the context of systemic diseases with lentigines.

Skin disorders connected with pigmentation disturbances are most frequent dermatological problems. Different mechanisms are involved in these changes, mainly those which regulate melanocyte function. In this work we focused on molecular basis of pigmentation disorders in dermatological diseases that present clinically with hyperpigmentation (lentigo senilis, Riehl melanosis, seborrhoic keratosis, fibroma, café-au-lait patches melasma, atopic dermatitis) or hypopigmentation (vitiligo, albinism).

The development of unusual melanocytic lesions after exposure to UVA tanning beds has been reported recently. We studied one such case with the use of light and electron microscopy and found the appearance similar to the lentigines that may occur after psoralen photochemotherapy. Histologically, some melanocytes showed mild nuclear atypia. Ultrastructural examination showed features similar to those of other forms of lentigo.
