A community-derived sample of 392 heroin users and 145 cocaine users were interviewed about their drug use and sexual behaviour, with (optional) collection of saliva specimen for linked anonymous HIV/HBV testing. A retrospective audit of 200 transfusion episodes involving the use of platelets or fresh frozen plasma (FFP) was performed in five hospitals in London. Using the Seattle protocol with minor modifications, 23 patients with severe aplastic anaemia received allogeneic bone marrow transplants from HLA/mixed leucocyte culture matched sibs in three London centres between 1973 and 1977. Based on data from the 1980s, Sassen's influential book 'The Global City' interrogated how changes in the occupational structure affect socio-economic residential segregation in global cities.
