Impact of the Individualized 4-Year Physiotherapy on the Musculoskeletal System and Quality of Life of Patients With Severe Hemophilia A With Inhibitors.

INTRODUCTION: The development of factor VIII inhibitors is a significant complication of hemophilia A, increasing the risk of bleeding and resulting in high morbidity. Recurrent joint bleeds lead to severe arthropathy and a reduced quality of life compared to patients without inhibitors. Although recent therapies have improved outcomes, many patients with longstanding inhibitors already experience irreversible joint damage. Research on rehabilitation in hemophilia, particularly for patients with inhibitors, remains limited. AIM: This 4-year study evaluated the impact of individualized physiot

A comprehensive mapping of stress system interactions with pain and their contribution to chronification of musculoskeletal pain: Protocol of the STRAIN study.

BACKGROUND: Stress is suggested to be an important factor contributing to the development and persistence of musculoskeletal pain. Although stress and pain interactions are well known, it remains largely unclear how (dys)function of the major stress systems (i.e., the autonomic nervous system and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis) contributes to pain extent and duration, and what the underlying mechanisms are. A comprehensive characterization of the stress systems and their interactions with pain is needed to better understand how stress confers vulnerability for persistent pain. AIMS:

Assessment of the Impact of Physical Activity on the Musculoskeletal System in Early Degenerative Knee Joint Lesions in an Animal Model.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most prevalent diseases of the osteoarticular system. Progressive destruction of joints is accompanied by development of pathological changes in the muscle tissue, i.e., weakening, atrophy, and remodelling (sarcopenia). The aim of the present study is to assess the impact of physical activity on the musculoskeletal system in an animal model of early degenerative lesions in the knee joint. The study involved 30 male Wistar rats. The animals were allocated to three subgroups of 10 animals each. Each animal from the three subgroups received sodium iodoacetate by …

Air pollution exposure and auto-inflammatory and autoimmune diseases of the musculoskeletal system: a review of epidemiologic and mechanistic evidence.

Auto-inflammatory and autoimmune diseases of the musculoskeletal system can be perceived as a spectrum of rheumatic diseases, with the joints and connective tissues are eroded severely that progressively develop chronic inflammation and lesion. A wide range of risk factors represented by genetic and environmental factors have been uncovered by population-based surveys and experimental studies. Lately, the exposure to air pollution has been found to be potentially involved in the mechanisms of occurrence or development of such diseases, principally manifest in oxidative stress, local and system…

Association of Musculoskeletal and Radiological Features with Clinical and Serological Findings in Systemic Sclerosis: A Single-Centre Registry Study.

AIM: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a chronic connective tissue disease with the clinical hallmark of skin thickening and tethering. Correlation of musculoskeletal features with other parameters should be considered in SSc patients. METHODS: We reviewed the records of all patients who had more than one visit and standard anteroposterior radiography of hand. We used univariate analysis, and factors with p<0.05 were included in logistic regression to find out dependent factors. RESULTS: Overall, 180 SSc patients were enrolled in our study, 161 (89.4%) of whom were women. Median age (IQR) was 47.0

Revisiting Avicenna's (ad 980-1037) Anatomical Concepts of the Musculoskeletal and Peripheral Nervous Systems in the Canon of Medicine.

Avicenna, as he is known in the West, was a famous Persian Muslim physician and influential philosopher-scientist of the medieval Islamic world. He wrote and compiled the Canon of Medicine text, a book which was adopted as the main text of medicine at the most Persian and Western universities. The book consists of basic medical sciences, applied clinical sciences and pharmacology. In the current study, we present an analysis of the anatomy of the musculoskeletal and peripheral nervous systems as viewed by Avicenna in the Canon of Medicine, and compare them with the relevant modern literature.

Proteinases, proteinase-activated receptors (PARs) and the pathophysiology of cancer and diseases of the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, nervous and gastrointestinal systems.

Proteinases like thrombin, trypsin and tissue kallikreins are now known to regulate cell signaling by cleaving and activating a novel family of G-protein-coupled proteinase-activated receptors (PARs 1 to 4) via exposure of a 'tethered' receptor-triggering ligand. On their own, short synthetic peptides based on the 'tethered ligand' sequences of the PARs (PAR-APs) can, in the absence of receptor proteolysis, selectively activate PARs 1, 2 and 4 and cause physiological responses both in vitro and in vivo. Using the PAR-APs as probes in vivo, it has been found that PAR activation can affect the v

Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue in relation to temporomandibular disorders-A SWEREG-TMD nationwide case-control study.

INTRODUCTION: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are comprised by a heterogenous group of diagnoses with multifaceted and complex etiologies. Although diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (MSD) have been reported as risk factors for developing TMD, no nationwide population-based registry studies have been conducted to investigate this possible link. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between MSD and TMD in a population-based sample using Swedish registry data, and to further investigate the difference in such association between patients diagnosed w…

Overuse-Related Injuries of the Musculoskeletal System: Systematic Review and Quantitative Synthesis of Injuries, Locations, Risk Factors and Assessment Techniques.

Overuse-related musculoskeletal injuries mostly affect athletes, especially if involved in preseason conditioning, and military populations; they may also occur, however, when pathological or biological conditions render the musculoskeletal system inadequate to cope with a mechanical load, even if moderate. Within the MOVIDA (Motor function and Vitamin D: toolkit for risk Assessment and prediction) Project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Defence, a systematic review of the literature was conducted to support the development of a transportable toolkit (instrumentation, protocols and referenc…
