PURPOSE: To observe and compare the effects of pupil dilation between Mydrin-P and compound tropicamide in the screening of retinopathy of prematurity.
METHODS: The right eyes of premature infants received My- drin-P eye drops as the treatment group, whereas the left eyes were administered with compound tropicamide as the control group. The eye drops were delivered every 5 min for three times. The pupil size was observed and recorded at 10, 15, and 20 min after administering mydriasis.

Meal contaminated by Datura stramonium seeds at the rate of 0.5% by weight was fed to two horses. Both horses showed clinical signs of depression, anorexia, weight loss, rapi heart and respiration rates, mydriasis, polyuria, polydipsia and diarrhoea. Both recovered with treatment. Maize screenings contaminated by the seeds had been used in the manufacture of the meal.

Tryptamine produces pharmacologic effects in man and the chronic spinal dog which are similar to those produced by LSD, mescaline, psilocin, DMT, DOM and DOB. PURPOSE: To report the visual outcomes of different techniques for iris pupilloplasty in eyes after traumatic and iatrogenic damage.
METHODS: 70 consecutive eyes with posttraumatic (80%) and postoperative (20%) iris damage were included. According to the preoperative diagnosis, the eyes were divided into three groups: mydriasis (50%), partial iris defects (24%), and iridodialysis (26%). Multiple techniques were performed: the Siepser slip-knot technique, the "lasso" technique, and suturing to the sclera. These techniques were combined in some cases.

OBJECTIVE: To describe exposure characteristics and clinical signs of companion animals following incidental exposure to kratom.
METHODS: Cases were identified from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Animal Poison Control Center electronic database between February 2014 and December 2024. Geographic, exposure details and clinical variables were collected.

Bilateral cataracts were diagnosed in two rescued juvenile, immature loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta), weighing 1.65 and 1.7 kg. A case is reported of a phaeochromocytoma revealed during a general anaesthesia by a sudden hypertensive crisis associated with acute pulmonary oedema and signs of extreme sympathetic stimulation (bilateral mydriasis, piloerection, peripheral vasoconstriction). Aortic angiography revealed the tumour lying in an ectopic retroperitoneal situation and spasm in the superior mesenteric arterial territory. The effects of i.v. N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) were studied on arterial blood pressure, rectal temperature, pupil size and the electroencephalogram of the rabbit. DMT altered these parameters in a dose-related manner causing increased blood pressure, hyperthermia, pupilary mydriasis and activation of the electroencephalogram. Pretreatment with the monoamine oxidase inhibitor, iproniazid, prolonged the effects of DMT, while pretreatment with chlorpromazine or methiothepin attenuated these actions of DMT.

Botulism is a widespread neuroparalytic disease that may be confused with other neurological disorders. A 54-year-old man presented with coma and left mydriasis due to bilateral thalamic and left paramedian midbrain infarcts. Workup revealed paradoxical embolism from an intrapulmonary shunt. As the patient's mental status improved, complex eye movement abnormalities emerged, including vertical ophthalmoplegia, bilateral ptosis, and right pseudo-abducens palsy. A forty-seven-year-old female patient was admitted to our clinic with sudden ptosis and diplopia without pain. She had no trauma or systemic disease history. Ptosis and mydriasis were observed in her left eye. Eye movement was restricted all directions without lateral. Geese and ducks were photosensitized by the ingestion of Ammi majus seeds, and exposure to sunlight. Mydriasis was a characteristic clinical feature of this syndrome in both species. Histologically the iris of the affected birds showed vacuolisation and varying degrees of atrophy of the muscle of the sphincter pupillae. The effect of pilocarpine and physostigmine on the normal and mydriatic eyes was studied. The possible mode of action of photosensitization and the significance of these findings in the light of the use of psoralens in human medicine is discussed.
