Esophageal neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) are a rare type of esophageal neoplasm that can initially present with vague signs and symptoms. Gastrointestinal manifestations, such as dysphagia and abdominal discomfort, are the most common symptoms of neuroendocrine neoplasms. Although there is a potential for distant metastases because of esophageal NEC, few cases of brain metastasis have been reported. We report a rare case of an esophageal NEC metastasizing to the brain region.

Mucinous ovarian neoplasms represent the second largest group of epithelial ovarian tumors after serous neoplasms, of which benign cystadenomas constitute more than 80 %. Mucinous cystadenomas and carcinomas cannot be distinguished by the clinical features or the mean age of onset of the disease. They typically occur unilaterally, are confined to the adnexae (FIGO stage I) and clinically present with non-specific abdominal symptoms or are diagnosed by chance. The mean age of disease onset is around 50 years old. The prognosis is excellent. Implants, peritoneal metastases and bilateral occurren

Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a relatively rare epithelial tumor of the major and minor salivary glands that makes up less than 1% of head and neck neoplasms. The typical clinical and pathological findings of this neoplasm include slow growth, perineural invasion, multiple local recurrences, and distant metastasis. Herein, we report a patient with adenoid cystic carcinoma located to the lower lip which is quite uncommon.

The recently described hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma of salivary tissues joins other clinicopathologic entities in its segregation from the formerly nondescript and heterogeneous classification "clear cell neoplasms." The carcinoma is preponderantly an intraoral (palate and base of tongue) neoplasm that is always infiltrative and capable of regional lymph node metastasis. To date, it has responded to locoregional control treatments and has not been life-consuming.

BACKGROUND: Small cell carcinoma is a highly aggressive neuroendocrine malignancy that most commonly arises in the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, or pancreas. Primary small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the endometrium is exceedingly rare, and its clinical characteristics, diagnostic criteria, and optimal treatment strategies remain poorly defined.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 74-year-old postmenopausal Chinese woman (gravida 4, para 4) who presented with a 20-day history of irregular vaginal bleeding. Transvaginal pelvic ultrasound performed at an outside institution 1 week

We report a case of renal cell carcinoma occurring with bladder and contralateral adrenal metastasis discovered preoperatively with computerized tomography. Surgical treatment consisted of radical nephrectomy, with preservation of the ipsilateral adrenal gland, contralateral adrenalectomy, and transvesical resection of the bladder neoplasm. The hypothesis for the mechanism(s) of spread and treatment modalities are discussed.

Burkitt's lymphoma is a highly malignant, aggressive and rapidly growing B-cell neoplasm, which has low long-term survival rates. Abdomen is the most frequent onset site of nonendemic Burkitt's lymphoma. The rapidity of volumetric doubling of this neoplasm frequently justifies an abdominal acute presentation, that may mime other less rare diseases. Symptoms are often misleading and make diagnosis difficult. The aim of this work is to report a case of a 13-year-old boy affected by terminal ileum Burkitt's lymphoma with hepatic metastasis, which initially was mistaken for acute appendicitis comp

Renal cancer (RC) is known for its diverse clinical presentations and unpredictable behavior. While it often metastasizes to common sites such as the lymph nodes, lungs, bones, and liver, its potential to metastasize to the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is relatively rare. We report an unusual case of an 87-year-old male patient with a history of metastatic oncocytic renal neoplasm who presented with intermittent rectal bleeding. Colonoscopy revealed a bleeding mass in the sigmoid colon. Biopsy confirmed metastatic renal neoplasm, consistent with prior pathology. Immunohistochemistry was positi

Mucinous carcinomas arising within an ovarian dermoid tumor are rare. Most of the cases reported in the literature show morphological features resembling an appendiceal mucinous neoplasm. They exhibit CK7-/CK20+ immunophenotype similar to carcinomas of the lower gastrointestinal tract. In this report, we have described a case of a well-differentiated mucinous carcinoma arising within a mature cystic teratoma. The mucinous carcinoma showed a spectrum of morphological patterns, including cystadenoma-like areas, proliferative/borderline areas, villous adenoma-like areas, and areas of invasive car

Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) is a high-grade neoplasm that is usually located in the extremities and retroperitoneum. In the past, UPS was considered the most common soft tissue sarcoma in adults; due to improvements in diagnostic techniques, most cases have been reclassified as other lineage-specific tumors. Gnathic bones are rarely affected, and the clinicopathological characteristics of this neoplasm when diagnosed in the jaw remain to be better described. In this report, we present a rare case of mandibular UPS affecting an 88-year-old female who demonstrated a painful swelli

Studies were conducted in serum of 132 women. In 39 cases mastopathia fibrosocystica was diagnosed whereas the remaining 73 women had malignant breast cancer: 34-lobulare, 20-ductale and 19 of them-ductale and lobulare carcinoma. The concentration of tissue polypeptide specific antigen was determined by immunoenzymatic, BEKI DIAGNOSTIC test. The results showed, that TPS antigen concentration in serum of women without cancer symptoms was physiological, under 80 U/l. Whereas in 42 patients with benign neoplasm, in 5 of them the concentration of determined marker was over the cut-off. Our study s

Atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) is a mesenchymal neoplasm usually occurring in sun-exposed skin of elderly patients. The majority have an excellent prognosis, as recurrences are uncommon and metastases are rare. We present a case of an 81-year-old man who developed widespread peritoneal metastases from an AFX on his scalp, which was completely excised 3 years earlier. Histology of the scalp lesion showed a markedly pleomorphic neoplasm characteristic of AFX. Features associated with increased risk of metastasis, namely lymphovascular space invasion, deep invasion, and substantial necrosis, were n

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm that stems from the mesothelial cells lining the visceral cavities, namely, the pleura, peritoneum, pericardium, and tunica vaginalis of the testes. MPM is the most common variant of these and constitutes up to 80% of all malignant mesotheliomas. It is usually associated with asbestos exposure and is a locally invasive neoplasm that spreads along pleura and can involve lungs with locoregional metastasis. Diagnosis remains challenging due to the latency between asbestos exposure and clinical presentation and the variable cli

Lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC) of the larynx is a rare neoplasm; with a review of the literature having disclosed only 34 documented cases. This neoplasm seems to behave in a fashion reminiscent of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. In contrast to nasopharyngeal carcinoma, most cases have not been associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). The diagnosis often requires immunohistochemistry or electron microscopy for confirmation. We describe a case of this tumor involving the supraglottis. The patient was treated with supraglottic laryngectomy and bilateral modified neck dissection. The histopathologic

Placental metastasis of maternal neoplasms is well documented in solid tumors, unlike hematologic neoplasms. We reviewed placental findings from deliveries complicated by maternal hematologic neoplasms exploring the prevalence and patterns of placental transmission and insufficiency. In the 8-yr study period, 11 cases were analyzed. Acute myeloid leukemia was the most common diagnosis (4/11, 36%). Seven cases (63%) showed no evidence of placental spread of neoplasm, while four cases (36%) showed placental spread, restricted to the maternal compartment. Maternal vascular malperfusion was docume

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is defined as when metastasis from a primary tumor (donor) grows in a different primary neoplasm (recipient). Due to the structure of the thymus and the low incidence rate, thymic epithelial neoplasm has been rarely described in the literature as a recipient for metastases. In this report,a patient with advanced prostatic cancer and under control after chemo/hormone therapy was directed to our thoracic surgery unit for an anterior mediastinal mass detected during the staging workup for prostate disease. We report a case of tumor-to-tumor metastasis of a cutaneous malignant melanoma to a synchronous thyroid Hurthle cell carcinoma. A 42-year-old male underwent a biopsy of right inguinal lymphadenopathy which showed metastatic melanoma. The primary lesion was identified on his right posterior leg, and staging workup discovered a synchronous left thyroid lobe nodule concerning for a follicular neoplasm. He underwent excision of the primary melanoma, right inguinal lymphadenectomy, and total thyroidectomy. The resected thyroid contained a 6.6-cm, well-encapsulated left-sided nodule, red-brown in c

Oral metastasis from the colon is quite rare with limited reporting and scientific evidence. The most common metastasis from colorectal cancer is to the liver followed by lungs, bones, and other organs. However rare occurrences like metastasis to the oral cavity might worsen the prognosis and treatment outcome. Oral metastatic tumors account only 1% of all the malignant neoplasms of the jaw. In most of the cases metastasis has been reported in the jaw bones compared to soft tissues. Persistent pain and delayed, prolonged healing should raise the question of an underlying lesion. An unusual cas

Primary cutaneous sweat gland carcinoma is a rare neoplasm of malignant sweat gland lesions. It is characterized clinically with non-symptomatic, slow-growing nodules. We report the case of a patient with cutaneous sweat gland carcinoma with local recurrence and metastasis to the lung that was treated with surgical resection therapy and chemotherapy. The initial neoplasm was excised but biopsy was not performed. The tumor then recurred 7 years later, was re-excised, biopsy was performed, and diagnosed as a low-grade hidradenocarcinoma. We presented a very good result of chemotherapy in the tre

Sebaceous carcinoma of the ocular adnexa is a malignant neoplasm which can exhibit aggressive local behavior and can metastasize to regional lymph nodes and distant organs. The neoplasm is known to masquerade as other benign and less malignant lesions, resulting in delay in diagnosis and relative high morbidity and mortality. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of recurrent upper eyelid nodules treated elsewhere as chalazion was done. Cytological smears were suggestive of malignancy. Subsequently histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of sebaceous gland carcinoma. Eyelid reconstruction was
