Disorders of sex development (DSD), previously known as intersex, refer to congenital conditions in which development of chromosomal, gonadal, or anatomical sex is atypical. Patients with specific variants of this disorder have an elevated risk for the development of so-called type II germ cell cancers, i.e., the seminomatous and nonseminatous tumors, referred to as germ cell tumors (GCTs). Specifically DSD patients with gonadal dysgenesis or hypovirilization are at risk. A prerequisite for type II GCT formation is the presence of a specific part of the Y chromosome (referred to as the GBY reg

Extragonadal germ cell tumors are extremely rare and account for only 3%-5% of all germ cell tumors. These tumors are rarely associated with metachronous primary testicular germ cell tumors. We report the fourth case of a primary germ cell tumor occurring after the treatment of a primary CNS germ cell tumor in a 27 year-old male with embryonal cell carcinoma of the testicle 9 years after the treatment of a germ cell tumor of the pineal gland. This represents the first case of a non-seminomatous germ cell tumor of the testicle after a CNS germ cell tumor. This case illustrates the importance of

A teratoma is a neoplasm composed of cell populations or tissues that are reminiscent, in their appearance, of normal elements derived from at least two embryonic layers. Fetal mature teratomas are normally benign, cystic, and typically occur along the midline, while they are rare in the posterior mediastinum. Teratomas are frequently solitary; however, they may sometimes be associated with other congenital anomalies and/or with chromosomal abnormalities. Clinically, they are often asymptomatic but can occasionally cause compression symptoms. Prenatal diagnoses are uncommon and made with ultra

PURPOSE: The aim of this experimental study is to investigate the correlation between the presence of senescent cells and the tumor size, the lymphovascular invasion (LVI), the invasion of rete testis (RTI), the preoperative tumor markers or pathological stage in patients who underwent orchiectomy for malignant purposes.
METHODS: This experimental study included patients with a history of radical orchiectomy performed from January 2011 to January 2019. The testicular tissue specimens underwent an immunohistopathological process for the detection of the presence of cellular senescence. Besides

BACKGROUND: Testicular cancer (TC), comprising merely 1% of male neoplasms, holds the distinction of being the most commonly encountered neoplasm among young males.
RECENT FINDINGS: Most cases of testicular neoplasms can be classified into two main groups, namely germ cell tumors representing approximately 95% of the cases, and sex cord-stromal tumors accounting for about 5% of the cases. Moreover, its prevalence is on the rise across the globe. TC is a neoplastic condition characterized by a favorable prognosis. The advent of cisplatin-based chemotherapeutic agents in the latter part of the

Testicular germ cell tumours (GCTs) represent a paradigm for the usefulness of serum tumour markers in clinical management of diseases. However, the tumour markers currently in use, beta human chorionic gonadotropin (bHCG), alpha fetoprotein (AFP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) are expressed in less than 50% of GCT cases. In 2011, microRNA-371a-3p (currently named M371) was suggested as a novel marker for the first time. Chemically, microRNAS represent small RNA molecules consisting of 18-24 base pairs. Physiologically, these microRNAs play a prominent role in the epigenetic control of protei

Testicular cancer, although it represents a small proportion of adult neoplasms, has seen an increase in incidence. Germ cell tumors, which are predominant in this type of cancer, are divided into seminomas and non-seminomas, with risk factors including a history of cryptorchidism and family history. Diagnosis relies on thorough clinical assessment, supplemented by radiological examinations and tumor markers. Orchidectomy is the standard treatment. After surgery, chemotherapy may be used to reduce the risk of recurrence. Awareness of testicular self-examination is crucial, and patients should

Pineal region tumors (PTs) represent extremely rare pathologies, characterized by highly heterogeneous histological patterns. Most of the available evidence for Gamma Knife radiosurgical (GKSR) treatment of PTs arises from multimodal regimens, including GKSR as an adjuvant modality or as a salvage treatment at recurrence. We aimed to gather existing evidence on the topic and analyze single-patient-level data to address the efficacy and safety of primary GKSR. This is a systematic review of the literature (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Science Direct) and pooled analysis of single-patient-level dat

There is a need to further explore the relationship between atypical symptom reporting and stage diagnosis to help develop a clearer defined list of possible testicular cancer (TC) symptoms that could assist physicians diagnose the disease earlier. A cross-sectional study was employed to explore possible associations between TC symptom presentation and stage of diagnosis. An original 40-item survey was distributed among 698 TC survivors to determine the potential impact of several risk factors, experiences, and behaviors upon diagnosis. This analysis aimed to explore how certain patient-driven

INTRODUCTION: A mixed germ cell tumor with a teratoma component can become enlarged following chemotherapy, and such an event is diagnosed as growing teratoma syndrome. Removing large, hypervascular tumors including a tumor encased by developed vasculatures from the pineal region is challenging during a single operation.
CASE REPORT: A 15-year-old male underwent chemotherapy for mixed germ cell tumors according to the KSPNO G082 protocol. This case of a mixed germ cell tumor with growing teratoma syndrome was recognized very early during chemotherapy. The tumor was completely removed during t

We present a case of undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver (UES), an uncommon malignant mesenchymal tumor that occurs predominately in children and is very rarely seen in adults. Our patient is a 32-year-old pregnant female without significant past medical history, who presented to the emergency department with worsening abdominal pain and a large palpable abdominal mass. Imaging identified a large, hemorrhagic right hepatic lobe mass that in retrospect had imaging characteristics most suggestive of UES. Though extremely rare in adults, it is still important to recognize the imaging

Choriocarcinomas are epitelial tumors with a rapidly growing rate and widely metastatic tumor of trophoblastic cells. Incidence have been reported 1 in 24,096 pregnant patients. Most cases arise in the uterus following gestational events. It can also be gonadal or extragonadal. primary gastric choriocarcinoma is rare, represents 0.08% of all gastric cancers. Clinical presentation is very similar to adenocarcinomas but they can present seric β-GCH elevation. The main objective is present three cases of primary gastric choriocarcinoma with an initial miss diagnosis of adenocarcimoa.

A 17-year-old male patient presented to the clinic with a headache, nausea, and vomiting. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a fat-containing and -enhancing heterogeneous tumor in the third ventricle, and fat droplets within the ventricles and the subarachnoid space. Obstructive hydrocephalus was also present. Emergency subtotal removal of the mass was performed via interhemispheric transcallosal approach. The histopathological diagnosis was a mixed germ cell tumor that was composed of embryonal carcinoma, yolk-sac tumor, germinoma, and immature teratoma containing a large amount of matur

A male preterm infant was born with dysmorphic features consistent with Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RTS). An undescended right testicle was noted on examination. At 5 months of age he developed a palpable right-sided abdominal mass and an elevated alpha-fetoprotein. Histology revealed a malignant germ cell neoplasm arising within the undescended testis. This is the first reported case of a germ cell tumor occurring in a pediatric patient with RTS. Urologic abnormalities occur in approximately 52% of RTS patients, of which cryptorchidism is the commonest. Given the frequency of undescended teste

In cases of pineal tumors, a germ cell tumor should always be suspected. As some of them are secreting tumors, tumoral markers (AFP and/or hGC) are an important part of the diagnostic process. Their positivity either in the serum and/or in the cerebrospinal fluid may lead to an accurate diagnosis, avoiding a potentially dangerous surgical biopsy. Follow-up of tumoral markers is useful during and after treatment in order to monitor response to chemotherapy or a remission status.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The extragonadal germ cell tumors (EGCTs) represent a unique entity, and as such require specialized management. This review article will discuss the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment modalities for EGCTs.
RECENT FINDINGS: The anterior mediastinal germ cell tumors (GCTs) are the most common EGCT. These tumors originate in the anterior mediastinum without any testis primary. Mediastinal nonseminomatous GCTs carry a poor prognosis with 40-50% overall survival and should be treated with cisplatin-based chemotherapy followed by surgical resection of the residual tumor. At Indi

Testicular microlithiasis is an infrequent but well recognized condition, which is usually incidentally identified on testicular ultrasound scan. Interest in testicular microlithiasis has increased over the past few years, owing to an observed association with testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT) and intratubular germ cell neoplasia of unclassified type (ITGCNU). This association has added to evidence that testicular microlithiasis is a feature of the testicular dysgenesis syndrome (TDS), which is postulated to underpin disorders of male reproduction such as subfertility, testicular atrophy, cryp

Though germ cell cancer is rare, it is the most common cancer in males between 20 and 40 years. The primary site for the development of germ cell tumor is testes, but it can be seen in extragonadal locations as well. Herein, we present a rare case of a 19-year-old patient with non/seminomatous extragonadal germ cell tumor in the pineal region with an aggressive behaviour, refractory to the combined therapy (surgery, radio- and chemotherapy). We suggest that early diagnosis and aggressive multimodal approaches along with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy is necessary to improve the outcome
