Enzootic nasal adenocarcinoma (ENA) is a contagious neoplasm of the secretory epithelial cells of the nasal mucosa of sheep and goats. It is associated with the betaretrovirus, enzootic nasal tumor virus (ENTV), but a causative relationship has yet to be demonstrated. In this study, 14-day-old lambs were experimentally infected via nebulization with cell-free tumor filtrates derived from naturally occurring cases of ENA. At 12 weeks post-infection (wpi), one of the five infected lambs developed clinical signs, including continuous nasal discharge and open mouth breathing, and was euthanized. N

Malignant neoplasms of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are uncommon. Choriocarcinoma is a highly malignant germ cell tumour occurring in the reproductive organs. Metastasis may be principally by the lymphatic route as in other germ cell tumours but choriocarcinoma is also known to spread haematogenously. We present a rare case of metastatic choriocarcinoma to the nasal cavity from testicular teratoma presenting with intractable epistaxis in a 32-year-old Caucasian male, who ultimately succumbed to this disease.

BACKGROUND: Full-thickness skin grafts on the dorsum of the nose may heal depressed and might benefit from elevation. Microlipoinjection has been used to elevate depressed tissue; however, the long-term persistence of the augmentation is questioned.
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether microlipoinjection beneath depressed full-thickness grafts on the dorsum of the nose can provide effective and persistent graft elevation.
METHODS: Microlipoinjection was performed at one to three sessions under depressed full-thickness skin grafts on the nose of four patients. Their appearance was assessed clinica

By means of a case report, we show that the general classification of different forms of osteofibrous skull tumours does not always agree with the clinical, pathological and roentgenological findings. A classification based on these requirements is discussed.

In the last decade, the incidence and mortality associated with laryngeal malignancies has experienced an unfavorable evolution in Romania, in terms of this pathology the country that has become the leader, among the European Union (EU)-27 countries. The aim of the present retrospective study was to analyze the epidemiological data regarding laryngeal cancer and histopathological (HP) particularities in patients diagnosed in Western Romania. Within three years and 10 months (during October 2016-July 2020) in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Clinic of Timişoara Municipal Emergency Clinical Hospital,

INTRODUCTION: The nose's anatomy, structure, and positioning play a pivotal role in defining facial aesthetics. As the most common site for non-melanoma skin cancer, restoring the nose's natural appearance after ablative surgery poses significant challenges in the ever-evolving field of reconstructive surgery. By adhering to the principles of reconstructive surgery and the facial subunit division theory, numerous techniques have been developed, with local and regional flaps remaining key tools for surgeons.
OBSERVATION: The advent of free tissue transplantation has transformed facial reconstr

Reconstruction of complex full-thickness nasal defects requires the reconstitution of the mucous internal nasal lining, the cartilaginous framework, and the aesthetic contour of the cutaneous nasal covering. Goals of reconstruction include restoration of a functional nasal airway and redefinition of the contours of the nose as well as its relationship to the cheek and lip with the least amount of morbidity to the patient. This article details a multistaged approach to repairing such a defect using an ipsilateral septal mucoperichondrial flap, multiple cartilage grafts, a paramedian forehead fl

IMPORTANCE: Suboptimal practices in the evaluation and workup of nasal masses may lead to patient outcomes that could be improved. Recognizing common pitfalls and mishandled clinical scenarios underscores the need for clear, consensus-driven recommendations.
OBJECTIVE: To provide expert consensus recommendations regarding the appropriate workup and evaluation of nasal masses to avoid common pitfalls, optimize management practices, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A systematic review from 1990 to 2025 was conducted in PubMed to identify gaps and disc

We describe a method to repair full thickness defects of the nose using a glabellar flap as the lining of the nasal cavity and an expanded forehead flap for external closure. We consider our method useful in the reconstruction of a nose with a full thickness defect for which the flap donor site is limited. The patient was a 45-year-old man who underwent resection of a basal cell carcinoma located over the dorsum of the nose which was associated with a hemangioma simplex on the face. As a result, about two-thirds of the nose, from the dorsum to the tip, as well as a part of the right cheek beca

Nine cases of primary malignant melanoma of the upper respiratory tract treated at the University Hospital over the past 10 years are presented. Of the 9 cases, 6 had primary lesions located in the nasal cavity with the remaining 3 presenting in the nasopharynx, hard palate, and larynx, respectively. The authors review presenting symptoms, diagnostic evaluation, current therapeutic modalities, and clinical course in these cases. Specific cases are discussed to emphasize items of clinical or therapeutic importance.

PURPOSE: Nasal glioneuronal heterotopia (NGH) is an uncommon developmental abnormality of the nasal cavity or paranasal soft tissue. Few detailed histologic studies of NGH exist, and molecular analyses have not been performed to date.
METHODS: We describe six cases of pediatric NGH and two representative encephaloceles encountered in our practice over the past 20 years.
RESULTS: Two clinically distinct patient groups were noted, those with 1) intranasal nasal cavity mass (n = 3), or 2) extranasal cutaneous mass on the nose (n = 3, 1 on nasal apex, 2 on nasal bridge). Intranasal cases present

The surgical repair of full-thickness defects involving the alae nasi is complex. Pedicle flaps such as frontal and nasolabial flaps can be used, but require several interventions with different techniques. In contrast, free flaps from the foot of the ear helix allow the three layers of the nasal wings to be reconstructed in a single operation. Nevertheless, in the classical approach, the vascular pedicle is short. Although some authors have proposed raising the flap in a retrograde manner, this still yields a relatively short pedicle with narrow vessels. In the companion paper, we demonstrate

The nose is the most common site for nonmelanoma skin cancer. Fortunately, most skin cancer lesions on the nose are discovered early and their timely diagnosis and excision result in superficial defects that can be reconstructed with minimal impact on the aesthetics and function. Reconstruction of full-thickness defects of the nose remains a challenging endeavor for reconstructive surgeons. An organized and systematic approach is necessary to streamline the analysis, planning, and reconstruction complex nasal defects to consistently achieve optimal results. This article reviews options for rec
