[A model for the development of a reimbursement system for home health care--based on the concept of nursing cost].

The reimbursement system for nursing services needs to be set up before beginning of the home health care system. One thing we should consider as a premise in developing a reimbursement system for home health care is that the fee-schedule of home health care should be based on the cost of unit service, since the medical reimbursement system in Korea basically depends upon the concept of 'fees for service'. A model for the development of the fee schedule was designed to make some contribution to the reimbursement system for home health care, which should be prepared before the enhancement of a

Developing a nurse-led reproductive health mobile health unit in rural Illinois: Opportunity to promote faculty practice and student training.

Mobile health units (MHUs) in the United States have grown to over 3,000 nationwide, increasing health care access and equity to underserved communities. Although MHUs have demonstrated improved patient outcomes, there is a lack of literature on partnering with nursing colleges and their faculty. This report will share how a college of nursing and their office of faculty practice and partnerships in a large midwestern state university implemented a nurse-led MHU to deliver reproductive health care to rural communities in central Illinois, incorporating advanced practice registered nurses (APRN

Women speak. Healing the wounds of homelessness through writing.

The Women Speak writing project explores the use of writing as a therapeutic process with homeless women at an urban drop-in center. The project was developed in response to the women's desire to give voice to their experiences. By speaking about and sharing the experiences of their lives, a sense of empowerment through expression began. Nursing students and faculty working at the drop-in center were challenged to re-think the traditional clinical site relationship which gives highest priority to meeting the needs of students and faculty.

Nurses on the Frontlines of Collapse: Advocacy, Leadership, and HIV Care in the Wake of United States Agency for International Development's Withdrawal From Kenya, Malawi, and the Philippines.

The abrupt dissolution of United States Agency for International Development and the cessation of U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief funding have triggered a global health crisis, disproportionately affecting HIV services and frontline health systems across the Global South. This article explores how nurses are responding-not only by sustaining clinical care but by stepping into roles as policy advocates, organizers, and system innovators. Drawing from lived experiences in Kenya, Malawi, the Philippines, and beyond, we highlight the resilience, leadership, and moral clarity of nur

Roles and experiences of nurses in primary health care during the COVID-19 pandemic: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Nurses form the frontline of the healthcare system's response to both epidemics and pandemics, and this was especially the case during the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Although the influence of COVID-19 on nursing roles has attracted interest, there is no integrated knowledge of nurses' roles and experiences in primary health care settings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, this study identifies the roles and experiences of nurses in primary health care during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A scoping review study design and the Joanna Briggs Institute methodolo

Challenges to communication: supporting the patients with SCI with their diagnosis and prognosis.

This article discusses some of the common dilemmas that nurses experience when communicating with patients who have recently sustained a spinal cord injury. Drawing on the literature, this article highlights that the nurse's role in giving bad news is unique. Nurses are often in the position of clarifying information as patients become aware of their limitations. This awareness prompts the need for support for both patients and their families. Nurses must interact with patients during their adjustment to their losses, and this requires good communication skills. The experiences of other health

Reimagining the Community Nursing Bag: Eco-Smart and Technology-Integrated Solutions.

Community health nurses play a vital role in delivering preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare services through home visits and outreach programs. The community nursing bag has long served as an essential tool for carrying supplies, equipment, medications, and records required for field-based nursing care. However, conventional community bags face several limitations, including infection-control concerns, excessive weight, poor ergonomic design, environmental impact, and limited integration with digital technologies. These challenges necessitate the modernization of tra

The patient's first point of contact (PINPOINT) - protocol of a prospective multicenter study of communication and decision-making during patient assessments by primary care registered nurses.

BACKGROUND: A major challenge for primary care is to set priorities and balance demands with available resources. The registered nurses in this study are practice nurses working in primary care offices, playing a large role in initial assessments. The overall objective of this research is to investigate practices of communication and decision-making during nurses' initial assessment of patients' health problems in primary care, examine working mechanisms in good practices and develop feasible solutions. METHODS: Project PINPOINT aims for a prospective multicenter study using various methods f

Red reflex examination in reproductive and child health clinics for early detection of paediatric cataract and ocular media disorders: cross-sectional diagnostic accuracy and feasibility studies from Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Late presentation of congenital cataract in the developing world has led to poor outcomes such that cataract is the leading cause of childhood blindness. Our hypothesis was that, sensitivity of red-reflex testing is greater than sensitivity of torchlight examination. We aimed to compare sensitivity of new red reflex screening tools and assess the feasibility of Arclight red reflex screening in the community. SUBJECT/METHODS: We compared the diagnostic accuracy of four different screening tools for cataract and retinoblastoma performed by ophthalmic nurses, using a clini

Fungal nail infections: far more than an aesthetic problem.

Onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) is common and causes considerable discomfort and pain for many otherwise health patients. However, onychomycosis is especially prevalent in some patient groups seen regularly by community nurses (e.g. the elderly and people with diabetes, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection or psoriasis). This article discusses the causes and types of onychomycosis, and examines in detail the various treatments available. Both the infection and its treatment can cause several clinical problems including drug interactions, difficulties with differential diagnosis a

Health Promotion in an Opioid Treatment Program: An Evidence-Based Nursing Quality Improvement Project.

Community assessment and review of the literature indicate that individuals supported in opioid treatment programs are at a significant disadvantage for access to preventative and primary healthcare. In addition, this population faces increased comorbidities and chronic disease. Finally, access to housing, nutritious food, and other social determinants of health is also a challenge for these individuals. This project, aimed at addressing healthcare disparities and improving health outcomes for the opioid treatment program client, was undertaken at a large, private, not-for-profit, community me
