OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of topical ointment therapy on neonatal sepsis in premature infants.
METHODS: A total of 197 premature infants≤34 weeks gestation were randomized to receive topical ointment (Aquaphor Original Emollient) or routine skin care group. Skin cultures were obtained on 3th, 7th and 14th day and blood cultures were obtained if sepsis was suspected clinically. BACKGROUND: Dermal drug delivery is becoming more common, as evidenced by the increased numbers of compounding pharmacies preparing topical products for chronic pain management. DESIGN: Randomised controlled trial.
INTERVENTION: Patients were randomised to receive either a 5 g tube of dexamethasone ointment (containing 5 mg dexamethasone) [n=120] or placebo ointment [n=120]. Vitiligo is a dermatosis of difficult treatment and significant psychosocial impact. The objective of this study was to evaluate the response to tacrolimus 0,1% ointment for vitiligo treatment. Ten patients took part in the present study: six patients with lesions on the cephalic and cervical regions had more than 75% of repigmentation. As for extremities and trunk results varied from good to excellent in 27% of the cases. The association with other therapeutic options could possibly increase the efficacy of the treatment.
