The teeth become very close to each other when they are crowded, but their structures remain individualized and, in this situation, the role of the epithelial rests of Malassez is fundamental to release the EGF. The concept of tensegrity is fundamental to understand the responses of tissues submitted to forces in body movements, including teeth and their stability in this process. The factors of tooth position stability in the arch - or dental tensegrity - should be considered when one plans and perform an orthodontic treatment. The direct causes of the mandibular anterior crowding are decisiv

This case report describes a novel method of combining lingual appliances and lingual arches to control horizontal problems. The patient, who was 25 years of age at her first visit to our hospital with a chief complaint of crooked anterior teeth, was diagnosed with skeletal Class II and Angle Class II malocclusion with anterior deep bite, lateral open bite, premolar crossbite, and severe crowding in both arches. She was treated with premolar extractions and temporary anchorage devices. Conventionally, it is ideal to use labial brackets simultaneously with appliances, such as a lingual arch, a

Indication of intermediate retention after early treatment of class II malocclusion has not been yet assessed by comparative studies. Therefore, it is up to the practitioner to analyse the need for retention in the time period between the two phases. Does wearing a retainer indeed decrease the chance of relapse between phase one and phase two? We performed a retrospective comparative study consisting of 90 subjects in mixed dentition with class II molar relationships with an increased overjet (> or = 5 mm) treated in the J.-J. Aknin office with DAC appliance. The sample was divided into two gr

The patient was a 24-year-old Japanese female. The chief complaints were crowding and masticatory dysfunction due to the missing right first molar. Her maxillary first premolars had been extracted when she was a primary school student. We planned orthodontic treatment with extraction of the mandibular first premolars and transplantation of the mandibular left first premolar into the maxillary right first molar area. We made a diagnostic setup model to initiate an appropriate treatment plan for the discrepancy in tooth size ratio. Following the diagnostic setup model, the space in the maxillary

A 12-year-old boy consulted with a severe skeletal class II malocclusion, proclination of the upper incisors with diastemas in the upper arch, 11mm of overjet, a Bolton discrepancy, deep bite and a severe curve of Spee. Treatment included evaluation of the skeletal age using the middle phalanx maturation of the third finger (MPM) method in order to assess the pubertal growth spurt. When this period was reached, a Herbst was applied for 8 months; then fixed orthodontic treatment was delivered for 16 months. At the end of orthodontic treatment, restorative therapy was given to improve the shape

AIM: The aim of this study is to discuss a case of an 11-year-old pediatric patient, who was diagnosed with delayed eruption of the permanent maxillary central incisors because of palatally impacted supernumerary teeth.
BACKGROUND: The delayed eruption of permanent teeth can be a result of blocking by supernumerary teeth and over-retained primary teeth. Early diagnosis can help in avoiding the complications. The management of such cases depends on the stage of teeth development, teeth position, and space availability. Treatment may combine both surgical and orthodontic interventions.

PURPOSE: To analyze the influencing factors of orthodontic efficacy in adolescent patients and construct a logistic regression model.
METHODS: A total of 260 adolescent orthodontic patients treated from January 2019 to December 2023 were selected. The therapeutic effect was evaluated using the peer assessment rating (PAR) index. At the 2-year follow-up after treatment completion, patients with a reduction of more than 5 points in the PAR index compared with immediately post-treatment were assigned to the poor efficacy group (n=53), and the remaining patients were assigned to the favorable eff

Impacted maxillary incisors are rare and pose significant esthetic and functional challenges, particularly when associated with other dental anomalies and skeletal discrepancies. This case highlights the interdisciplinary management of such a complex case. An 18-year-old male presented with a missing maxillary left central incisor, a fractured maxillary right lateral incisor of uncertain prognosis, and a skeletal Class III malocclusion with anterior and lateral crossbite. Clinical examination, panoramic radiography, and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) confirmed impaction of the maxillary

BACKGROUND: Prosthodontic and orthodontic procedures have been described for the treatment of patients with traumatic loss of teeth.
PATIENT AND METHODS: Both upper central incisors and the upper right lateral incisor had to be extracted in an 8-year-old patient after failure of conservative procedures following a sports accident. The patient was treated on a temporary basis with a space retainer as a substitute for the teeth. Definitive therapy was carried out by transplanting a lower bicuspid germ into the upper arch with subsequent orthodontic gap closure.
RESULTS: 8 years after the inter
