A new two-dimensional cadmium coordination polymer with 1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate and oxalate.

The title compound, poly[aqua(μ(2)-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylato-κ(3)N(3),O:O')hemi(μ(2)-oxalato-κ(4)O(1),O(2):O(1'),O(2'))cadmium(II)], [Cd(C(4)H(3)N(2)O(2))(C(2)O(4))(0.5)(H(2)O)](n), exhibits a two-dimensional network. The Cd(II) cation is coordinated to one N atom and two carboxylate O atoms from two 1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate (Himc) ligands, two carboxylate O atoms from the bridging oxalate anion and one ligated water molecule; these six donor atoms form a distorted octahedral configuration. The oxalate anion lies on a centre of inversion. The Himc ligands connect the Cd(II) cations to form

Acute irreversible oxalate nephropathy in a lung transplant recipient treated successfully with a renal transplant.

We report a 29 year old male cystic fibrosis patient with end stage lung disease and normal renal function who underwent a sequential double lung transplant. Medical history included: an ileal resection and pancreatic exocrine dysfunction. The postoperative period was complicated with haemorrhage and repeat surgery, requiring multiple blood transfusions and extensive antibiotic cover. Pancreatic supplements were interrupted. Acute renal failure attributed to haemodynamically-mediated acute tubular necrosis was managed expectantly. He remained dialysis dependent 8 weeks post surgery and was mai

Polymetallic oxalate-based 2D magnets: soluble molecular precursors for the nanostructuration of magnetic oxides.

Here we describe the synthesis and magnetic characterization of a family of 2D polymetallic oxalate-bridged polymeric networks with general formula [M(II)(H(2)O)(2)](3)[M(III)(ox)(3)](2)(18-crown-6)(2) (M(III) = Cr, Fe; M(II) = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni; 18-crown-6 = C(12)H(24)O(6)). Depending on the nature of the trivalent metal ion, they exhibit ferro- (Cr(3+)) or ferrimagnetic (Fe(3+)) ordering in the 3.6-20 K interval. In contrast with most of the oxalate-bridged CPs reported so far, these complexes do not need any additional templating cation for their assembly and represent the first series of oxal

Nuclear pore complex oxalate binding protein p62: expression in different kidney disorders.

BACKGROUND: Urolithiasis is a multifactorial process that starts with the formation of microcrystals in the urine and terminates as mature renal calculi. The oxalate binding protein plays a vital role in the transport of oxalate. The physiological significance of the presence of oxalate binding protein in the nuclear pore complex is not well understood. METHODS: The nuclear envelope was extracted from human cadaver kidneys. 14C oxalate was labeled, nuclear pore complex proteins were extracted and loaded onto Sephadex G-200, and further purified in DEAE-Sephadex A-50 column. The radioactive pr

[Preparation, analysis and anti-anemic action of peroral powders with ferrous oxalate. Ferosol-1].

Investigation of new stable iron (II) compounds is still an actual problem of today. Therefore we synthesized ferrous oxalate and prepared a stable antianaemic powder Ferosol-1 including copper, zinc and cobalt. We used colour tests, precipitation reactions and paper chromatography for identification of components of this powder. Quantitative analysis of iron and other elements was performed using atomic absorption spectroscopy. We used Lichfield and Wilkinson method modificated by Roth to detect acute Ferosol-1 toxicity. To estimate a local action of this powder we used guinea pigs which were

Calcium Oxalate Stone Agglomeration Inhibition [tm] Reflects Renal Stone-Forming Activity.

Louisiana and other Gulf South states comprise a "Stone Belt" where calcium oxalate stone formers (CaOx SFs) are found at a high rate of approximately 5%. In these patients, the agglomeration of small stone crystals, which are visible in nearly all morning urine collections, forms stones that can become trapped in the renal parenchyma and the renal pelvis. Without therapy, about half of CaOx SFs repeatedly form kidney stones, which can cause excruciating pain that can be relieved by passage, fragmentation (lithotripsy), or surgical removal. The absence of stones in "normal" patients suggests t

Adhesion of calcium oxalate monohydrate crystals to anionic sites on the surface of renal epithelial cells.

Adhesion of microcrystals to the apical surface of renal tubular cells could be a critical step in the formation of kidney stones. The role of membrane surface charge as a determinant of the interaction between renal epithelial cells (BSC-1 line) and the most common crystal in kidney stones, calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM), was studied in a tissue culture model system. Adhesion of COM crystals to cells was blocked by cationized ferritin. Other cations that bind to cells including cetylpyridinium chloride and polylysine, as well as cationic dyes such as Alcian blue, also inhibited adhesion of

Adhesion of calcium oxalate monohydrate crystals to renal epithelial cells is inhibited by specific anions.

Adhesion of urinary crystals to the apical surface of renal tubular cells could be a critical step in the formation of kidney stones. The interaction between renal epithelial cells (BSC-1 line) and the most common crystal in kidney stones, calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM), was studied in a tissue culture model system. COM crystals bound to the cell surface within seconds in a concentration-dependent manner to a far greater extent than did brushite, another calcium-containing crystal found in urine. Adhesion of COM crystals to cells was blocked by the polyanion, heparin. Other glycosaminoglyca

Effects of urinary macromolecules on the nucleation of calcium oxalate in idiopathic stone formers and healthy controls.

Urinary macromolecules have attracted great interest because of their possible role as both promoters and inhibitors of calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystallization and it remains unclear whether there is any difference, in their nucleating activity, between stone formers and controls. We selected 9 male idiopathic CaOx stone formers whose 24-h urines presented no evidence of common urinary stone risk factors such as hypercalciuria, hyperoxaluria, hyperuricosuria, hypocitraturia, hypomagnesiuria or low glycosaminoglycans excretion and 12 male controls (matched for age and body weight) whose 24-h uri

Comparative studies on the effect of vitamin A, B1 and B6 deficiency on oxalate metabolism in male rats.

The study was conducted to investigate the effect of vitamin A, B1 and B6 deficiency on oxalate metabolism in rats. A significant hyperoxaluria was the common observation in all the three vitamin deficiencies (vitamin B6 greater than vitamin A greater than vitamin B1). The activities of hepatic glycolate oxidase and glycolate dehydrogenase were markedly enhanced in vitamin-A- and vitamin-B6-deficient rats. However, lactate dehydrogenase levels remained unaltered in these deficiencies as compared to their respective pair-fed controls. Vitamin B1 deficiency of 4 weeks' duration could augment the

Inhibition of calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) crystal growth by pyrophosphate, citrate and rat urine.

An assay system for the measurement of the rate of Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate (COM) seed crystal growth in a metastable solution of calcium chloride and sodium oxalate containing traces of 14C-oxalic acid was used to assess the inhibitory activity of pyrophosphate (10(-5) M-10(-4) M), citrate (10(-4) M-10(-3) M) and urines of normal and pyridoxine deficient rats. Both pyrophosphate and citrate were strong inhibitors of COM crystal growth and caused a 50% decrease in crystal growth rate at 1.50 X 10(-5) M and 2.85 X 10(-4) M respectively. Normal rat urine strongly inhibited the COM crystal gro

Off-label use of dapagliflozin in a dog with recurrent calcium oxalate urolithiasis: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Calcium oxalate (CaOx) urolithiasis is a common and recurrent condition in dogs, typically managed with dietary modification, thiazide diuretics, and potassium citrate. In human medicine, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors such as dapagliflozin are increasingly used to manage diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease and have been shown to alter urinary factors associated with nephrolithiasis. Their effects in veterinary patients, however, remain uncharacterized. This case report describes the novel off-label use of dapagliflozin in a dog with refractory CaOx cyst

Systematic characterizations of a urinary protein, prosaposin, as a novel inhibitor of calcium oxalate stone formation.

The development of calcium oxalate (CaOx) stones in the kidney comprises multiple processes involving sophisticated interactions between stone minerals and other molecules, especially urinary proteins. Prosaposin (PSAP) has recently been identified in the urine from healthy (non-stone) subjects, not in the urine from CaOx stone subjects. Consequently, PSAP may serve as a CaOx stone inhibitor, but without experimental evidence. This study thus aimed to systematically investigate the stone-modulatory effects of PSAP on four critical CaOx stone-forming processes. Recombinant human PSAP protein wa

Ni(II)-oxalate on plastic-derived carbon: a green platform for furfural diacetal synthesis.

An efficient and environmentally benign method for the synthesis of diacetals from furfural (FF) and heavy aliphatic (1-hexanol) or alicyclic (cyclohexanol) alcohols is reported for the first time. A novel catalyst comprising 2.5 wt% Ni(II) oxalate deposited on carbon char derived from the pyrolysis of plastic waste was synthesized and employed under microwave-assisted conditions. The catalyst effectively promoted the acetalization of FF with heavy alcohols at 130-170 °C, achieving up to 70% FF conversion and 99% selectivity toward diacetals within one hour in both binary (FF + single alcohol)

Bypassing First-Stage Degradation via Preconversion Interface Engineering in Iron Oxalate Anodes.

Oxalate-based anodes are attractive high-capacity candidates for lithium-ion batteries, but their practical application is hindered by severe first-stage degradation during early cycling. Here, combined experimental and theoretical analyses suggest that the early-stage irreversibility of iron oxalate is driven by interfacial chemical degradation of oxalate groups, with possible mechanical damage accelerating failure by exposing fresh reactive surfaces. Guided by this mechanism, we develop a preconversion interfacial engineering strategy by thermochemically preforming an FeOx passivation layer

Serum and urine metabolomic profiling in Miniature Schnauzer dogs with and without calcium oxalate urolithiasis.

INTRODUCTION: Calcium oxalate (CaOx) urolithiasis is associated with metabolic disorders, including dyslipidemia. Improved understanding of underlying metabolic derangements is needed. The Miniature Schnauzer presents an opportunity to investigate connections between hyperlipidemia and CaOx stones, as both are prevalent in the breed. OBJECTIVES: To characterize lipidomic (serum) and metabolomic (serum and urine) profiles in Miniature Schnauzers with (cases) and without (controls) CaOx urolithiasis. METHODS: Ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectroscopy was performed on

Cementum Attachment Protein-Derived Peptides Modulate Brushite and Calcium Oxalate Crystallization In Vitro.

Pathological mineralization involves the uncontrolled crystallization of calcium phosphate (brushite) and calcium oxalate, leading to renal calculi and ectopic calcifications. Peptides enriched in acidic or phosphorylated residues are potential crystal growth modulators due to their ability to interact with calcium-rich surfaces. This study investigated the in vitro effects of cementum attachment protein-derived peptides, CAP-pi and its phosphorylated analog CAP-pip, on brushite and calcium oxalate crystallization. By isolating these highly anionic motifs, this work introduces a novel biomimet
