The disposal of paint waste from bridge rehabilitation is a significant issue because of the potential release of contaminants and the consequent impact to human health and the environment. In this study, leaching behavior of paint waste was evaluated for 24 bridges in New York State. In this work, the painting "Gioventú" (Eliseu Visconti, 1898) was analyzed by means of energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence and computed radiography. A portable EDXRF system was employed to identify the pigments used by the artist: yellow, red and brown ocher; umber; vermilion; cobalt blue; lead white and viridian (or chromium oxide). The CR analysis revealed that the painting was in a good state of conservation and also a previous composition hidden under the painting.

The extent and distribution of conserved chromosomal segments between pig and cattle chromosomes were established using hybridization of porcine chromosome painting probes on bovine metaphases. A total of 44 segments of conserved synteny were identified, resulting in a nearly complete coverage of the bovine karyotype. This study provides new data on chromosome evolution of mammals.

Mercury vapors are released from paint containing mercury compounds used to prolong the shelf-life of interior latex paint. To determine whether homes recently painted with paint containing mercury had elevated indoor-air mercury concentrations, we studied 37 Ohio homes. Twenty-one homes painted with mercury-containing paint a median of 86 days earlier were compared with 16 homes not recently painted with mercury-containing paint.
