The fat embolism syndrome is a well-known complication in trauma patients. We describe a rare case of traumatic fat embolism that leads to paraplegia. A 19-year-old male motorcycle accident victim was presented to our hospital. After stabilization and trauma survey, he was diagnosed with bilateral femur fractures, a spleen laceration and a tear in the inferior vena cava, for which damage control surgery was performed. BACKGROUND: Tuberculous radiculomyelitis(TBRM) is one of the complications of neurological tuberculosis and includes cases of arachnoiditis, intradural spinal tuberculoma or granuloma, and spinal cord complications of tuberculous meningitis (TBM). A-76-year old woman was admitted to the hospital with paraplegia after a collapse at home. Magnetic resonance imaging showed white matter lesions from Th4 to L2 as well as large confluent white matter lesions in the cerebrum. BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Neuroarthropathy, also known as Charcot joint, is most commonly seen in the spine and other weight-bearing joints in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). It is rarely seen in the joints of the upper extremities because the pathophysiology of the neuroarthropathy is thought to be significant repetitive trauma such as with weight bearing in an insensate joint.

We report a 3-year-old girl with idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome. She was admitted to our hospital because of fever, cough, significant eosinophilia (16,500/microliter) and an elevated serum IgE level (114,685 u/ml). Recently, paraplegin and spastin have been found to be mutated in two autosomal forms of hereditary spastic paraplegia. Both proteins harbour a common ATPase domain that expresses a chaperone function. Paraplegin is a nuclear-encoded mitochondrial metalloprotease, while the exact role and subcellular localisation of spastin are still unclear.

We report four cases where continuous epidural analgesia resulted in epidural abscesses (EA) causing spinal cord damage and paraplegia. The first symptom of EA was intense back pain, which developed 0-20 days after removal of the epidural catheter. The diagnosis of EA was not made prior to the development of severe neurologic disturbances in any of the patients. In all cases there was a time lag of 2-4 days between the first symptoms and institution of the appropriate treatment.

A retrospective study was done to evaluate the results of surgical intervention on the neurological symptoms associated with achondroplastic dwarfs. Between 1971 and 1979, laminectomy was performed on three patients with thoracolumbar spinal canal stenosis associated with achondroplasia.
