Three cases of benign pelvic tumors are presented (2 leiomyomas and 1 fibroma). All three tumors were suspected of being malignant neoplasms because they were visualized as heterogeneous high signal intensity on T2-weighted images, and thus they were difficult to diagnose preoperatively. One of the leiomyomas was located in the retroperitoneum and had been misdiagnosed as an ovarian tumor. All three tumors exhibited secondary myxoid changes, these changes may have been responsible for the high signal intensity on the T2-weighted MR images. Since benign tumors sometimes mimic malignant tumors o

Abdominal cystic lymphangioma is a rare benign neoplasm. Less than 1% of lymphangiomas is in the retroperitoneum. Lymphangioma is mostly asymptomatic. Chronic symptoms were reported in retroperitoneal type more than others. Acute symptoms due to complications like infection, cyst rupture or hemorrhage may occur. We report an 18-years-old girl with low back pain from 6 months ago with huge pelvic mass and diagnosis of retroperitoneal cystic lymphangioma.

We report two cases of low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) mimicking ovarian tumors that were treated with laparoscopic surgery. Case 1: A 57-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of a pelvic mass noted during physical examination. Imaging revealed an oval, cystic, 81×39-mm mass diagnosed as a right ovarian tumor, and surgery was performed. Intraoperative findings revealed an appendiceal tumor, and laparoscopic appendectomy was conducted. The pathological diagnosis was LAMN.Case 2: A 76-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of a pelvic mass noted during p

Extrapulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare neoplasm of spindle cells exhibiting melanocytic and myoid differentiation that arises as a mass in the mediastinum, retroperitoneum, uterine wall, and/or intraperitoneal lymph nodes. Many patients also have pulmonary LAM, tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), and/or other neoplasms of the perivascular epithelioid cell tumor family. This study reports 26 patients with clinically occult LAM involving pelvic/para-aortic lymph nodes removed from women undergoing surgical staging of a uterine (17), ovarian (5), cervical (3), or urinary bladder (1

Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a rare, benign but locally invasive mesenchymal tumor arising from myxoid connective tissue, predominantly affecting women of reproductive age. Its clinical presentation is often nonspecific, frequently mimicking other pelvic or perineal pathologies, which leads to delayed diagnosis. We report an exceptional case of AA presenting as a massive, irreducible pelvic organ prolapse. A healthy multiparous woman in her 40s presented to a Urogynecology Consultation with a 6-year history of a progressively enlarging perineal mass, initially interpreted as a complete pelvi

Mixed neuroendocrine-non-neuroendocrine neoplasms (MiNENs) of the rectum are extremely rare and pose significant diagnostic challenges. We report a 69-year-old man with rectal MiNEN successfully treated with a robot-assisted Hartmann's procedure. Preoperative contrast-enhanced CT revealed a vascular stalk-like structure within the tumor. Gross pathology showed a clear demarcation between adenocarcinoma and small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. Robot-assisted surgery facilitated precise dissection in the narrow pelvic cavity and safe distal transection through a transanal approach. This case hig

Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are a diverse group of mesenchymal neoplasms. While they have been described throughout the genitourinary system, PEComas are quite rare within the bladder. We present the case of a 37-year-old male who presented in clot retention and was found to have a bladder PEComa. Staging images seemingly demonstrated solid tumor confinement to the bladder and pelvis. Intraoperative pathology revealed peritoneal metastasis. The patient underwent a pelvic mass excision and partial cystectomy. The patient had plans for adjuvant chemotherapy, but later returned

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare neoplasms originating from the neuroendocrine system. While they can develop sporadically throughout the body, they are mostly found in the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, pancreas, and thymus. NETs can be classified into low-grade indolent tumors, intermediate-grade tumors, or high-grade aggressive cancers. These tumors have the potential to metastasize to various parts of the body, with the liver being the primary site for metastases. However, it is extremely rare for NETs to metastasize to the heart. Here, we present a unique case of intracar

Ovarian metastases tend to arise in young women, either in patients with known cancer or as the first presentation of a previously occult extraovarian malignancy. Although imaging cannot always differentiate between secondary and primary ovarian neoplasms, and pathologic confirmation is generally required, it is important to recognize suggestive imaging features on pelvic MR imaging. Ovarian metastases are commonly described as bilateral, solid, heterogenous, and hypervascular. Features vary based on the tumor origin and histology. Knowledge of these features, plus the appropriate clinical con

We describe the case of a woman in her 50s with abdominal pelvic masses suspected to be an ovarian lesion with metastases. At laparoscopy, it appeared as a possible abdominal location of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1). A 50 cm of small bowel was resected to remove multiple nodular lesions. On histopathology, small bowel lesions (n=14) were all classified as GISTs. Clinicians should recognise and consider gastrointestinal manifestations of NF-1 in the diagnostic flow chart. Surgical treatment may resolve symptomatic cases and prevent local infiltration or malignant degeneration of abdominal ne

Hemangiopericytomas are uncommon neoplasms of vascular origin that mostly arise from extremities, retroperitoneum, and pelvic fossa. They are rarely found in the parotid gland. A 35-year-old female patient presented with a swelling in the right preauricular region. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy performed twice yielded an extraordinary amount of blood. A cytological diagnosis could not be made. Computed tomography showed a homogenous, well-shaped mass in the parotid gland. Superficial parotidectomy was performed. Histopathological diagnosis was made as hemangiopericytoma. No evidence for local

A digital videofluoroscopic unit was employed to evaluate 42 female patients with urinary stress incontinence, cystocele or endometrial neoplasms, using either voiding cystourethrography or colpo-cysto-urethrorectography (CCURG), with or without urethral metallic bead chain. The digital subtraction technique allowed the direct visualization (on a single frame) of the lowering of both bladder base and other pelvic structures, and of the modification of urethral angles during Valsalva and micturition. The demonstration of contrasted urethra during micturition and Valsalva in incontinent patients

Acute pelvic pain is a common presenting complaint in both the emergency room and outpatient settings. Pelvic pain of gynecologic origin in postmenopausal women occurs less frequently than in premenopausal women; however, it has important differences in etiology. The most common causes of postmenopausal pelvic pain from gynecologic origin are ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease, and ovarian neoplasm. Other etiologies of pelvic pain are attributable to urinary, gastrointestinal, and vascular systems. As the optimal imaging modality varies for these etiologies, it is imp

INTRODUCTION: Splenosis is a benign, usually asymptomatic, condition involving autotransplantation of splenic tissue that occurs frequently after splenic rupture caused by trauma or surgery [1]. Up to 67% of the patients presenting splenic rupture may develop splenosis [2]. The interval of time between the initial trauma and the diagnosis varies from 3 to 45 years with an average interval of 21 years [3]. Since the finding of this entity is usually accidental, the real incidence is not well known. Although splenosis following traumatic splenectomy after traffic accidents is well-documented in

Primary malignant neoplasm of the fallopian tube is one of the rarest gynaecological malignancies and a pre-operative diagnosis is often missed due to its diagnostic confusion with the tubo-ovarian mass, hydrosalpinx, ectopic pregnancy and ovarian malignancy. Transcoelomic, lymphatic, transluminal and haematogenous spread may occur to the other abdominal and pelvic organs as well as to the distant sites. Though the body of the uterus, ovaries and the contralateral fallopian tube are frequently involved, in the present case the contralateral ovary was the only site of involvement which is very

Extramammary Paget's disease is an uncommon intra-epidermal malignant neoplasm that arises in area rich in apocrine glands. Common sites of occurrence include the vulva, perianal region, perineum, and scrotum. The lesion may be accompanied by an invasive adenocarcinoma or adenocarcinoma in situ of the apocrine glands. Generally, the prognosis is poor. Herein, we report two cases of extramammary Paget's disease, one involving the penoscrotal area with bilateral inguinal and pelvic lymph node metastases, the other involving the scrotal area without metastases.

Chondromyxoid fibroma is a benign cartilaginous neoplasm. The tumor is rare, perhaps the rarest of all bone tumors. It is more common in long bones and rare in pelvic bones. We report a case of a 31-year-old woman with chondromyxoid fibroma arising from the iliac bone and presenting with leg pain due to compression on the femoral nerve. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features were non specific for chondromyxoid fibroma. We emphasize the need to consider it in the differential diagnosis of chondrosarcoma.

Five patients with sarcomas of the spermatic cord were imaged with sonography and/or computed tomography (CT). The former modality is most helpful in demonstrating the extratesticular origin of the mass and evaluating its scrotal extension for local staging. CT is necessary for pelvic staging and searching for distant metastasis. The fat in liposarcomas was easily identified by CT, although it was not echogenic on sonography. Sonography should be the primary imaging modality for scrotal or inguinal masses. If a neoplasm is found, CT should be used for staging, prior to definitive surgical trea

BACKGROUND: Pseudo-Meigs syndrome is an unusual condition involving pelvic tumors, excluding ovarian fibroma, and is associated with ascites and hydrothorax. Pseudo-Meigs syndrome originating from uterine leiomyoma is an even rarer condition. Intravenous leiomyomatosis originating from uterine tumors, which extend from the inferior vena cava to the right heart chambers, is also extremely rare.
CASE REPORT: This report presents an extremely rare case of intravenous leiomyomatosis with intracardiac extension accompanied by Pseudo-Meigs syndrome caused by uterine leiomyoma. To the best of our kn

Solitary fibrous tumours (SFTs) are a rare mesenchymal neoplasm with an incidence of 2.8 per 100 000 of which only 1% occur in the female genital tract. Doege-Potter syndrome is a paraneoplastic phenomenon associated with approximately 5%-10% of SFTs and is characterised by non-islet cell hypoglycaemia due to tumour production of low molecular weight insulin-like growth factor-II. We present the fourth confirmed case of female pelvic SFT with Doege-Potter syndrome and a literature review.
