Peyronie's disease (PD) is due to a fibrotic alteration of the tunica albuginea of the penis. It is responsible of penile pain, angulation, and possible erectile dysfunction (ED). Despite almost three centuries have passed since the first description of the disease, etiology still remains uncertain. This fact has led to the lack of a truly effective medical therapy and to date the surgical treatment, although not yet standardized, is the only one that offers acceptable outcomes in terms of function and overall patient's satisfaction. Since the beginning of the surgical experience in this field

BACKGROUND: Congenital prepubic sinus (CPS) is a rare congenital anomaly and widely thought to be a variant of urethral duplication. Histological examination of this case gives a clue to this theory. CPS with dorsal penile curvature has been reported in previous publications, but their procedures to correct the curvature are different from this case.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 10-year-old boy complained of the pain in the dorsal base of the penis. Physical examination revealed an accessory meatus located in the midline of the dorsal proximal penis and moderate dorsal penile curvature with deficient

INTRODUCTION: Surgical techniques in managing Peyronies disease include plication corporoplasty, plaque incision, grafting and penile prosthesis implantation. The question of an ideal transplant for corporoplasty remains open.
AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of the substitution corporoplasty using buccal mucosa transplant (BMT) in treating Peyronies disease.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2011 to February 2016, 28 patients with stable stage Peyronies disease underwent substitution coroproplasty using BMT (incision and grafting). The mean age of patients was 54.8+/-6.2 years. All pati

Peyronie's disease (PD) is an under-diagnosed condition with prevalence in the male population as high as 9%. It is a localized connective tissue disorder of the penis characterized by scarring of the tunica albuginea. Its pathophysiology, however, remains incompletely elucidated. For the management of the acute phase of PD, there are currently numerous available oral drugs, but the scientific evidence for their use is weak. In terms of intralesional injections, collagenase clostridium histolyticum is currently the only Food and Drug Administration-approved drug for the management of patients

OBJECTIVE: Many physical or medical therapeutic approaches, systemic or local, have been suggested for treatment of Peyronie's disease. These approaches claim a discrete percentage of success in terms of clinical stabilization or improvement. The aim of our work was to evaluate the "natural history" of this disease.
METHOD: 110 patients affected by Peyronie's disease have been observed for at least five years. At the first visit all patients maintained sexual activity not requiring surgical approach. No medical or physical treatments have been performed on these patients. All patients underwe

Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) has been implicated in many chronic fibrotic conditions such as pulmonary and hepatic fibrosis. Inhibition of TGF-beta activity can prevent the development of chronic hepatitis and mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis. We postulated that TGF-beta might play a role in the pathogenesis of Peyronie's disease (a localized connective tissue disorder that primarily affects the tunica albuginea and adjacent erectile tissue of the penis). Tissue from the tunica albuginea of thirty-five Peyronie's patients (study group) and from eight patients without Pe

PURPOSE: Peyronie's disease has been associated with HLA tissue types, including HLA-A1, DR3, DQw2 and HLA-B7 cross-reactive group antigens which include HLA-B27. This association was tested as was the process of molecular mimicry where the host HLA surface antigen cross-reacts with a microorganism.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: HLA tissue typing was performed on 51 white patients with Peyronie's disease, of whom 15 also had Dupuytren's contracture of the hand. Fecal, urine and urethral samples were taken from patients with Peyronie's disease who had proved penile inflammation on biopsy. The samples

The case of an elderly man with tuberculous cavernositis of the penis leading to distortion and sinus tract formation is reported. The condition resembled carcinoma. Histopathology, a positive tuberculin test result, and a good response to treatment aided in making the diagnosis.

INTRODUCTION: Penile induration disease, commonly known as Peyronie's disease (PD), is a connective tissue disorder that affects the penis, leading to the development of fibrous plaques, penile curvature, and erectile dysfunction. PD is a common male reproductive system disease with a complex etiology involving multiple genes, signaling pathways, and different phenotypes.
OBJECTIVES: The etiology and pathogenesis of PD remain poorly understood, hindering the development of effective treatment strategies. By understanding the underlying mechanisms of PD, we can pave the way for targeted therap…

The surgical treatment of Peyronie's disease involves a multistage procedure with increasing invasiveness. In addition to precise knowledge about the existing surgical treatment procedures, the indication and the informed consent process of the patient is extremely important. The dissatisfaction with the surgical results for many patients is due to false expectations and positivistic representations. If we can avoid this and make the right decisions during surgery, even these difficult-to-treat patients can be treated successfully.
