RESULTS: Results suggested high correlational overlap between subjective cognitive problems with personality functioning and pathological personality, as measured by the AMPD. Hierarchical regressions revealed that subjective measures of executive functions, perceptual motor, and language difficulties were most strongly related to the AMPD's constructs. Results are discussed in t…

Inverse relationship between serotonin 5-HT(1A) receptor binding and anxiety: a [(11)C]WAY-100635 PET investigation in healthy volunteers.

OBJECTIVE: The authors investigated the relationship between anxiety--a facet of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory dimension of neuroticism--and serotonin 5-HT(1A) receptor binding potential. METHOD: Positron emission tomography with [(11)C]WAY-100635 was used to estimate regional 5-HT(1A) binding potential in 19 healthy volunteers who completed the Revised NEO Personality Inventory. Correlation coefficients were calculated to determine the degree of association between 5-HT(1A) binding potential and personality inventory measures. RESULTS: There was a significant negative correlation be…

Evaluation of Optical Coherence Tomography Findings in Antisocial Personality Disorder Patients.

BACKGROUND: Antisocial personality disorder is a frequently studied personality disorder, and its etiopathogenesis is still investigated. Neuroimaging demonstrated that certain regions of the brain could be associated with this disorder, and in the present study, we aimed to investigate the changes in retina, which could be considered an extension of the brain in antisocial personality disorder patients with optical coherence tomography. METHODS: The study was conducted with 35 patients and 35 healthy controls. The study data were collected with the Sociodemographic and Clinical Data Form, Be

Personality trait predictors of bipolar disorder symptoms.

The purpose of the current investigation was to examine the personality predictors of bipolar disorder symptoms, conceptualized as one-dimensional (bipolarity) or two-dimensional (mania and depression). A psychiatric sample (N=370; 45% women; mean age 39.50 years) completed the Revised NEO Personality Inventory and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory -2. A model in which bipolar symptoms were represented as a single dimension provided a good fit to the data. This dimension was predicted by Neuroticism and (negative) Agreeableness. A model in which bipolar symptoms were represented …

Patterns of normal personality structure among chronic pain patients.

Fifty-nine chronic pain patients satisfying one of four previously identified pain group classifications were evaluated using the NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI), a standardized measure of normal adult personality structure. Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) pain subgroups differed with respect to level of NEO-PI Neuroticism. In particular, emotionally overwhelmed pain patients as defined by multiple MMPI scale elevations had higher NEO-PI Neuroticism scores. Post hoc analyses revealed higher levels of depression, anxiety, vulnerability, and hostility in emotionally overwhe…

Beyond (low) Agreeableness: Toward a more comprehensive understanding of antagonistic psychopathology.

In clinical psychopathology research, up to seven traits have been suggested as instances of antagonistic psychopathology. Those antagonistic traits, in turn, are commonly viewed as reflections of low Agreeableness as per the Big Five (BF-AG). However, specific theoretical differences between antagonistic traits suggest that other broad, basic dimensions beyond BF-AG ought to provide further points of correspondence. Specifically, whereas primarily affective antagonistic traits are closely aligned with BF-AG, primarily behavioral antagonistic traits are better aligned with Honesty-Humility (HH
