This study aimed to investigate the anti-angiogenic effects of Celecoxib on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hypoxia-inducible transcription factor 1α (HIF-1α) in a mouse model for oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR). BACKGROUND: Pain on injection limits the use of propofol in children. The combination of lidocaine and propofol is widely used to reduce pain. A new solvent [medium-chain triglyceride (mct)/long-chain triglyceride (lct)] has been advocated to be less painful than standard (lct) propofol in adults, but no information is available of its usefulness in pre-school children. BACKGROUND: Whereas allergy to vehicle ingredients (ie, excipients and preservatives) in topical steroid vehicles is well recognized, there are no data regarding which vehicle ingredients are in common use or on which vehicles and active molecules are associated with which ingredients.
OBJECTIVE: To produce descriptive data on the use of allergenic vehicle ingredients in prescription topical corticosteroids.
METHODS: The package insert for every steroid in widespread use in the United States was obtained from the manufacturer and used to generate an ingredient list for the product.

In approaching the question as to which test preparations are most suitable for patch testing of metals, 25 chromium sensitive patients were tested with 0.5% potassium dichromate either in water or petrolatum. The aqueous solution proved better than the petrolatum preparation at a 48 h reading with Neodermtest Roc. No difference in sensitivity was recorded between 4 hexavalent chromium salts. 3 patients who were only sensitive to chromium solution in water also reacted positively to a 1% cobalt chloride solution and a 5% nickel sulfate solution in petrolatum.

A comparison was made between the guinea pig maximization test (GPMT), open epicutaneous test (OET) and chamber test (CT), and the allergens were neomycin sulphate and propylene glycol (PG). The sensitization rate for neomycin in petrolatum was 35% in GPMT, 25% in OET and 25% in CT. The corresponding figures for neomycin in PG were 30% in GPMT, 45% in OET and 32% in CT. PG caused no hypersensitivity in 118 guinea pigs. The results suggested that as a hygroscopic, irritant and penetrating vehicle PG facilitates the induction of delayed contact allergy, especially in OET.
