Nystatin is an antifungal polyene macrolide which is widely applied to treat yeast infections. Nystatin has also been used as a laboratory tool to inhibit endocytic processes in mammalian cells. The interaction of nystatin with model membranes has been studied thoroughly by various spectroscopic methods, making use of its weak fluorescence in the ultraviolet (UV). Aspergillus fumigatus is the main mold causing invasive fungal infection that shows high mortality rates. Therapeutic failure and the increase in drug resistance make it necessary to explore alternative treatments for this infection. We have evaluated the efficacy of amphotericin B at 0.8 mg/kg or 0.3 mg/kg of body weight combined with 40 mg/kg of posaconazole against three A. fumigatus isolates in a murine model of disseminated infection. In this study, we isolated an endophytic Streptomyces sp. strain, WP-1, from surface-sterilized barks of Pinus dabeshanensis, an endangered Chinese plant. WP-1 showed strong antifungal activity against diverse pathogenic fungi, such as Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani, Phytophthora infestan, and Candida albicans.
