We report a case of a 65-year-old female who presented to us with diminution of vision in the right eye. She was only able to perceive light in the right eye, and the left eye had a vision of 20/20, N6. Anterior segment examination in both eyes was unremarkable except for senile cataract in the left eye. BACKGROUND: Posterior keratoconus is characterized by an internal protrusion of the posterior corneal surface and associated localized or diffuse stromal thinning. Two cases of circumscribed (localized) posterior keratoconus are presented that are representative of the spectrum of the anomaly.
CONCLUSIONS: The clinical and histological appearance of posterior keratoconus and its differential diagnosis from other corneal ectasias and developmental anomalies are reviewed to enable the eye care practitioner to better diagnose and manage this rare anterior segment disorder.

BACKGROUND: Extracapsular cataract (ECCE) surgery is becoming increasingly popular in surgical eye camps of developing countries. This study assesses the outcome of 166 eyes at 6 weeks and 14 and 32 months after ECCE with and without implantation of intraocular lens in refugee camps of eastern Nepal.
METHOD: All patients operated on in seven refugee camps during the 3 years before the assessment were included in the study population. Visual acuity, examination of anterior segment and posterior segments, and grading of capsular opacification using a standardised grading system were performed.

An eye of a patient with clinically typical presumed ocular histoplasmosis was studied by light microscopy, electron microscopy and immuno-fluorescence techniques. There was clinical and pathological evidence of anterior segment involvement. The posterior segment showed granulomatous and nongranulomatous chorioretinal lesions with and without subretinal neovascularization. Immunohistopathological staining for histoplasma antigens revealed positive staining at sites of lymphoid inflammation. Organisms were not identified.

PURPOSE: To describe the results of management of glass intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs).
METHODS: A total of 51 eyes of 43 patients that sustained penetrating injury with glass IOFB were studied retrospectively. A total of 23.5% had IOFB only in the anterior segment; the rest had IOFB in the posterior segment alone or in both the anterior and posterior segments. A 38-year-old man sustained a left eye injury after being attacked by a mynah bird. Ocular examination revealed a beak-shaped, full-thickness corneal laceration with total aniridia in the left eye. No other ocular injury was observed, and the lens and posterior segment remained normal over the subsequent 3 months. A penetrating keratoplasty was planned for visual restoration.
