Contributions of the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative to advancing AD research: a targeted review of recent publications.

The Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, reflecting two decades of major contributions to Alzheimer's research through open data sharing and longitudinal multimodal assessments. This review synthesizes 122 high-impact studies using ADNI data or biospecimens from 2023 to mid-2025 to clarify mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression. Studies describe impairment of glymphatic clearance and the impact of cerebral small vessel disease, trajectories of amyloid beta and tau deposition, inflammation, metabolic disturbances, synaptic dysf

Artificial intelligence can match domain experts in evidence extraction and critical appraisal of microbial oncogenesis research publications.

BACKGROUND: Confirmed oncogenic microbes contribute significantly to cancer burden. Identifying and confirming novel microbial oncogenicity could yield strategies and tools that will reduce disease burdens. However, relevant evidence may be dispersed across a vast biomedical literature that is infeasible for humans to comprehensively synthesize. Large Language Models (LLMs) may enable scalable, expert-level systematic evidence synthesis to identify high priority microbe-cancer pairs; however, such capabilities have not yet been demonstrated. METHODS: Domain experts were recruited to create a

Influential publications in sudden hearing loss: a bibliometric and visual synopsis of the top 100 cited articles.

BACKGROUND: Sudden hearing loss (SHL) is a prevalent emergency in otolaryngology. Despite its frequency, there is a lack of econometric analysis and visualisation of the most significant SHL research literature. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview and explore the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles in SHL through bibliometric analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) was used to identify the 100 most cited SHL articles from 1999 to 2024. Tools such as CiteSpace and VOSviewer were employed to visualise data on countries, institutions

Three decades of transformation: a bibliometric study of gender and geographic trends in international orthopaedic journal publications.

AIMS: Academic journals are essential for advancing knowledge, yet gender disparities in orthopaedic authorship persist. While most previous studies focus authorship trends on mainly North American journals, this study analyzes gender distribution among primary and senior authors, along with the geographical origins of articles, in three orthopaedic journals based in Europe and North America. METHODS: A retrospective, cross-sectional analysis was conducted on articles published from 2000 to 2004, 2010 to 2014, and 2020 to 2024 in the following journals: Acta Orthopaedica (AO), The Bone & Join

Detectable AI-Generated Text in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery : A Comparison of 2014 and 2024 Publications.

BACKGROUND: The rapid emergence of large language models (LLMs) has transformed scientific writing, prompting concerns regarding the extent to which generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be influencing published research manuscripts. AI-detection software has been proposed as a method to identify AI-generated text; however, the validity of these tools in scientific contexts remains uncertain. This study evaluates detectable AI content in articles published in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery (JCFS) before and after the widespread adoption of LLMs. METHODS: A retrospective cross

Global trends and current status in pheochromocytoma: a bibliometric analysis of publications in the last 20 years.

OBJECTIVE: Pheochromocytoma is a rare catecholamine-producing neuroendocrine tumour originating from the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla or extra-adrenal paraganglia. However, there are few bibliometric studies on Pheochromocytoma. Therefore, this study was employed to summarize the global trends and current status in pheochromocytoma by bibliometric analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Web of Science (WOS) core collection database was searched for publications relating to pheochromocytoma from 2001 to 2021. Historical developments, hotspots, and trends in tardive dyskinesia research: a scientometric analysis of 54 years of publications.

BACKGROUND: Since being recognized as an important drug-induced clinical entity during the 1960s, tardive dyskinesia (TD) has generated an extensive body of research seeking to understand its clinical characteristics, epidemiology, pathophysiology and management. Modern scientometric approaches allow interactive visualization of large bodies of literature to identify trends and hotspots within knowledge domains. This study thus aimed to provide a comprehensive scientometric review of the TD literature. METHODS: Web of Science was searched for articles, reviews, editorials and letters with the

Variability in the Reporting of Baseline Characteristics, Treatment, and Outcomes in Esophageal Atresia Publications: A Systematic Review.

INTRODUCTION: As survival rates of infants born with esophageal atresia (EA) have improved considerably, research interests are shifting from viability to morbidity and longer-term outcomes. This review aims to identify all parameters studied in recent EA research and determine variability in their reporting, utilization, and definition. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, we performed a systematic review of literature regarding the main EA care process, published between 2015 and 2021, combining the search term "esophageal atresia" with "morbidity," "mortality," "survival," "

Review of publications on the possible advantages of a direct cheek incision for accessory parotid gland masses.

Lesions of the accessory parotid gland (APG) are rare and surgical management is generally under-discussed. The surgical approach should provide complete resection, while minimising complications and aesthetic complaints. The current study reviews recent publications on the surgical management of APG masses, and discusses the advantages, and limitations of, and our experience with, direct cheek incision. Papers on the surgical management of APG masses published in the last 10 years were systematically searched. Information was obtained regarding the surgical approach, type of excision, and pos

Scientific publications on primary biliary cirrhosis from 2000 through 2010: an 11-year survey of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is a chronic liver disease characterized by intrahepatic bile-duct destruction, cholestasis, and fibrosis. It can lead to cirrhosis and eventually liver failure. PBC also shows some regional differences with respect to incidence and prevalence that are becoming more pronounced each year. Recently, researchers have paid more attention to PBC. To evaluate the development of PBC research during the past 11 years, we determined the quantity and quality of articles on this subject. We also compared the contributions of scientists from the US, UK, Japan, I
