The effects of thiamine deficiency and of the antithiamine drug pyrithiamine on the C-6 glioma and the C-1300 neuroblastoma cell lines have been studied. Thiamine deficiency increased the doubling time of the neuroblastoma cells without affecting that of the glioma cells. Pyrithiamine prevented both cell lines from doubling even once. CONCLUSION: Hydrogen gas effectively protected against the morphological and functional vestibular hair cell damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS).
OBJECTIVE: ROS are generally produced by oxidative stress. In the inner ear, ROS levels increase as a result of noise trauma and ototoxic drugs and induce damage. It is thus important to control ROS levels in the inner ear. The protective effects of hydrogen gas in cochlear hair cells have been reported previously.
METHODS: This study examined the effects of hydrogen gas on mouse vestibular hair cell damage by ROS using antimycin A.

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE STUDY: The treatment of bioprosthetic tissue routinely involves the use of glutaraldehyde, although the specific chemistry of glutaraldehyde fixation is not fully understood. Descriptions of definitive work on this reaction using model compounds are limited. The aim of the present study was to increase our understanding of the chemistry involved in the treatment of collagen-rich tissue with glutaraldehyde. Initially, 6-aminohexanoic acid (6-AHA) was used to model the lysine/hydroxylysine molecules in collagen before studying the more complex chemistry of the tissue.

The evaluated data of the anaesthesia protocols of 91 caesarean sections are presented. The narcosis of caesarean sections was introduced by using 1 mg/kg ketamine. Pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC) as an adulterant is popular for concealing drug-positive results. When 11-nor-delta9-THC-9-carboxylic acid (THC-acid) in urine was treated with 2 mmol/L of PCC (Cr6+ 104 microg/mL), 58-100% of the THC-acid was lost.
