Lung cancer diagnosis using deep attention-based multiple instance learning and radiomics.

BACKGROUND: Early diagnosis of lung cancer is a key intervention for the treatment of lung cancer in which computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) can play a crucial role. Most published CAD methods perform lung cancer diagnosis by classifying each lung nodule in isolation. However, this does not reflect clinical practice, where clinicians diagnose a patient based on a set of images of nodules, instead of looking at one nodule at a time. Besides, the low interpretability of the output provided by these methods presents an important barrier for their adoption. METHOD: In this article, we treat lung can

Deep radiomics-based survival prediction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Heterogeneous clinical manifestations and progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affect patient health risk assessment, stratification, and management. Pulmonary function tests are used to diagnose and classify the severity of COPD, but they cannot fully represent the type or range of pathophysiologic abnormalities of the disease. To evaluate whether deep radiomics from chest computed tomography (CT) images can predict mortality in patients with COPD, we designed a convolutional neural network (CNN) model for extracting representative features from CT images and then perfo

Marginal radiomics features as imaging biomarkers for pathological invasion in lung adenocarcinoma.

OBJECTIVES: Lung adenocarcinomas which manifest as ground-glass nodules (GGNs) have different degrees of pathological invasion and differentiating among them is critical for treatment. Our goal was to evaluate the addition of marginal features to a baseline radiomics model on computed tomography (CT) images to predict the degree of pathologic invasiveness. METHODS: We identified 236 patients from two cohorts (training, n = 189; validation, n = 47) who underwent surgery for GGNs. All GGNs were pathologically confirmed as adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), or

Radiomics for Response and Outcome Assessment for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Routine follow-up visits and radiographic imaging are required for outcome evaluation and tumor recurrence monitoring. Yet more personalized surveillance is required in order to sufficiently address the nature of heterogeneity in nonsmall cell lung cancer and possible recurrences upon completion of treatment. Radiomics, an emerging noninvasive technology using medical imaging analysis and data mining methodology, has been adopted to the area of cancer diagnostics in recent years. Its potential application in response assessment for cancer treatment has also drawn considerable attention. Radiom

RadGazeGen: radiomics and gaze-guided chest X-ray generation using diffusion models.

PURPOSE: We present RadGazeGen, a framework for integrating experts' eye gaze patterns and radiomic feature maps as controls within text-to-image diffusion models to enable high-fidelity medical image generation. Although recent text-to-image diffusion models have achieved impressive success, textual descriptions alone often fail to capture disease-specific details necessary for generating clinically accurate and anatomically faithful images. APPROACH: To address these limitations, RadGazeGen leverages radiologists' eye gaze trajectories and radiomics feature descriptors as spatial and semant
