Thirty-nine children with various cardiac abnormalities were examined with perfusion lung scintigraphy with technetium Tc 99m macroaggregated albumin. Nuclide accumulation within each lung, which is proportional to the division of pulmonary arterial flow, was determined. We analyzed 127 consecutive patients who received trastuzumab-based chemotherapy from December, 2003 to February, 2009 in our hospital. Of 127 patients, cardiac dysfunction appeared in 6 patients(4. 7%). Cardiac dysfunction was defined as a decline in left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) < or =55% with absolute reduction of at least 10% from baseline. In patients with iron overload associated with severe, transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia, congestive heart failure develops during the second decade of life. Biventricular heart function was studied by multigated radionuclide angiography in 22 patients with beta-thalassemia major. Six patients were symptomatic. The authors review 30 documented cases of intracranial and orbital cavernous angiomas treated at their institution between 1965 and 1984.
