PURPOSE: To determine a correction factor for refractive errors evaluated without cycloplegy effect.
METHODS: A study was made with 623 patients (1,246 eyes) of both sexes, aging between 3 and 40 years old. The dynamic and static refractometries were obtained using the automated refractor Shin-Nippon Accuref-K 9001. 1% Cyclopentolate was dropped and the static refractometry was performed in 30 minutes. Data were analyzed using the linear regression model and the multiple regression model of the diopter values with and without cycloplegy effect according to age.

The authors report a case series of presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (POHS) from India. Patients with progressive diminution of vision and having subretinal neovascularisation (SRNVM) were evaluated thoroughly to look for signs of POHS. Three patients had features suggestive of POHS, which to the best of the authors' knowledge is the first case series reported from India. This study shows that patients with clinical features suggestive of POHS do exist in India. A thorough fundus examination of young adults with supposedly idiopathic SRNVM may help to uncover more cases of POHS in India

A 46-year old woman developed simultaneous central retinal artery occlusions (CRAOs) in Wegener granulomatosis (WG). She had presented six years earlier with xerostomia, skin rash, and arthralgias and received a diagnosis of Sjogren syndrome. Anti-neutrophilic cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) was negative. Months prior to the CRAOs, she had developed hearing loss, proptosis, and scleritis that were not responsive to prednisone 50 mg/d. The CRAOs occurred while she was being treated at this dose level.
