BACKGROUND: Unlike T-cell neoplasms, B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders have a limited clinical spectrum of skin involvement. Cutaneous B-cell neoplasms mimicking rosacea or rhinophyma are rare.
OBSERVATIONS: We described 12 patients with B-cell lymphoproliferative neoplasms presenting with a facial eruption clinically mimicking rosacea or rhinophyma. Eleven patients were women; ages ranged from 36 to 81 years. The clinical presentation included small papules on the nose and cheeks and around the eyes mimicking granulomatous rosacea; nodules on the nose, cheeks, chin, or forehead mimicking …

A typical case of advanced rhinophyma is reported. Partial excision reduced the size of the nose by two-thirds, leaving a thin layer of dermis. This was covered with silver-impregnated porcine xenograft, which allowed efficient drainage and remained adherent in its initial application for 2 weeks. A total of four applications of silver-impregnated porcine xenografts--the last two involving only very small areas--were required for complete epithelialization at 5 weeks after surgery. We believe that this xenograft is an ideal dressing for wounds resulting from partial excision of rhinophymatous …

"Rhinophyma" comes from the Greek words "rhis," meaning nose, and "phyma," meaning growth, which reflects its clinical presentation; overgrowth of sebaceous glands results in disfigurement or even nasal obstruction, in more severe cases. Nonsurgical treatments are the standard care, with dermabrasion, laser therapy, and ablative treatments being the most commonly preferred options. For advanced or recurrent cases, surgical intervention is the gold standard. Various surgical techniques have been described, including skin grafts, flaps, and skin substitutes. Surprisingly, there are only a few ca…

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review of the literature.
OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study is to review the current literature on severe rhinophyma requiring operative management for significant cosmetic deformity or nasal obstruction. We aim to provide a treatment algorithm for the various surgical techniques employed in the treatment of severe rhinophyma.
METHODS: Independent searches of the PubMed and MEDLINE databases were performed. Articles from the period of 2010 to 2020 were collected. All studies which described surgical treatment of severe rhinophyma using the Boolean method and relevant…

Rhinophyma, the final stage of acne rosacea, severely influences the patient's appearance and can only be treated by surgical methods. This case reports a simple, safe, effective, and economical surgical method-five-blade scratcher. After the surgical treatment, the overall nasal contour of the patient, a male with severe rosacea, was restored without scar formation. Thus, this surgical method reported in this case is feasible and easy to operate, and worthy of clinical promotion.

INTRODUCTION: Rhinophyma is benign hypertrophic thickening of the skin and edema of the nasal pyramid. The affected tissue enlarges slowly before reaching its permanent size. The lobulated skin surface with hundreds of pores can become cosmetically embarrassing and cause significant psychosocial stress, anxiety, and depression for patients. In addition, extensive alar thickening can obstruct the external nasal valves making treatment necessary to alleviate respiratory issues. No consensus has been reached regarding management of rhinophyma and many surgeons follow the "to each his own techniqu…

Introduction: Rhinophyma is recognized as a common and severe skin disease manifested as progressive thickening of the nasal skin due to hypertrophy of the soft tissue. The most severe complication of rhinophyma is telangiectasis. So far the pathogenetic approach for the treatment of rhinophyma should be based on the removal of the dysplastic vessels to provide the appropriate revascularization of the involved skin area. Case Report: This study presented the experience of the treatment of rhinophyma with the copper vapor laser (CVL) designed with the computerized scanner device. A 52-year-old …

INTRODUCTION: Rhinophyma is a rare, benign and unsightly disease of the skin of the nose that was first described a very long time ago, as illustrated by portrait of an old man with a bulbous nose holding his grandson, by Ghirlandaio in 1490. It was described for the first time by Ferdinando Hebra Von (1816-1880), as the third stage of rosacea. The objective of this study is to report the author's experience and propose a new treatment option in the management of rhinophyma.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We describe our experience of rhinophyma based on a retrospective case study.
RESULTS: We identi…

UNLABELLED: Rhinophyma is considered the end stage in the development of rosacea, with a clinical aspect characterized by sebaceous hyperplasia, fibrosis, follicular plugging, and telangiectasia. Although the treatment of rhinophyma typically has an aesthetic purpose, in some cases it also can help with nasal obstruction and eating difficulties caused by rhinophyma beyond the abnormal physical appearance that can cause social seclusion. Very few giant rhinophymas have been reported in the literature. In most cases full-thickness excision of the rhinophymatous tissue down to perichondrium and p…

Rhinophyma is an hypertrophy of the nose occurring primarily in men, from the age of 40, secondary to hyperplasia and fibrosis of sebaceous glands. This pathology is particularly unsightly and sometimes responsible of nasal obstruction. The treatment of this pathology is primarily surgical and the purpose of all techniques is to carry out a decortication. The authors describe one case of surgical treatment of rhinophyma by hydro-dissection using Versajet. After having presented the other possibilities of surgical technics for the treatment of this pathology, the authors compare the advantages …

Rhinophyma is considered to be the final stage of rosacea and has an unknown aetiology. We present two new surgical adjuncts for the treatment of this condition. The microdebrider is easy to use and allows precise contouring of the nose. It shares the same underlying principle as free-hand scalpel shaving but outperforms this method in key areas. We also describe a novel use for FloSeal((R)), a gelatin-thrombin co-mixture, utilizing its haemostatic properties to address bleeding from the re-shaped denuded nose.

Rhinophyma is a slowly progressive, benign dermatological disorder of the tip of the nose. The most widely accepted theory is that rhinophyma is the end stage result of chronic acne rosacea. The primary reason for excision of rhinophyma is cosmetic deformity. However, nasal obstruction may present, as rhinophyma may obstruct nasal vestibules. Surgery is the treatment of choice for rhinophyma. Medical therapy has not given satisfactory results. The surgical treatment modalities are divided into two main groups. The first is complete excision, with primary closure for small lesions, or skin graf…

We describe a patient who developed sebaceous carcinoma within a long-standing rhinophyma with rapid enlargement of the lesion. We believe the development of this tumour was a random occurrence but the possibility of tumour development should be considered in any rhinophyma showing a rapid increase in size.

Rhinophyma recurrence after surgical excision poses a significant therapeutic challenge, often stemming from the incomplete removal of deep hyperplastic pilosebaceous units. We present the case of a 66-year-old male with a third occurrence of rhinophyma after two prior failed cold-steel excisions. The definitive intervention consisted of a modified deep tangential excision, removing all rhinophymatous tissue to a deep dermal plane that approached, but did not violate, the nasal perichondrium, thereby eradicating the pathologic glandular nidus while preserving the deepest adnexal remnants essen…

Rhinophyma leads to severe facial deformities and significant social pressure for patients. Patients often seek medical intervention due to cosmetic defects and functional impairments, such as nasal congestion and airway collapse. Currently, there are numerous treatment modalities for rhinophyma, each with distinct advantages and disadvantages, leading to a lack of consensus in nasal vegetation management. Severe thickening in the nasal area can obstruct breathing through external nasal valve blockage, necessitating appropriate management for relief. This article presents a case study involvin…
