Validity of the Saint George's Respiratory Questionnaire in the evaluation of the health-related quality of life in patients with interstitial lung disease secondary to systemic sclerosis.

OBJECTIVES: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) profoundly affects the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). We tested the validity of the Saint George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), a lung-specific HRQoL-evaluation tool, in a population of SSc patients with ILD. METHODS: Twenty-eight consecutive SSc patients with a restrictive pulmonary involvement, defined as a forced vital capacity <80% of the predicted, with no pulmonary hypertension were considered. All the patients filled in the Medical Research Council (MRC) scale for perceived breathlessnes

On the analysis and interpretation of outcome measures in stroke clinical trials: lessons from the SAINT I study of NXY-059 for acute ischemic stroke.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: A variety of primary end points have been used in acute stroke trials. We focus on the modified Rankin Scale, a reliable and valid ordinal outcome measure that assesses disability on a 7-point scale. METHODS: We provide an abbreviated discussion of analytical methods for ordinal scales, and related effect size measures; we illustrate these methods and their interpretation with outcome data from the SAINT I study of NXY-059 in acute ischemic stroke. RESULTS: The nonparametric Mann-Whitney statistic provides a straightforward method for analysis of the modified Rankin S

Multi-Scale X-ray Imaging of the Pigment Discoloration Processes Triggered by Chlorine Compounds in the Upper Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi.

In this paper, the chromatic alteration of various types of paints, present on mural painting fragments derived from the vaults of The Upper Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Italy (12th-13th century), is studied using synchrotron radiation. Six painted mural fragments, several square centimeters in size, were available for analysis, originating from the ceiling paintings attributed to Cimabue and Giotto; they correspond to originally white, blue/green, and brown/yellow/orange areas showing discoloration. As well as collecting macroscopic X-ray fluorescence and diffraction maps from the e

[The link between aggressive behavior and depression in adolescence. A cross-sectional study conducted in the psychiatric emergency unit at the Sainte-Anne hospital].

INTRODUCTION: The link between depression and aggressive behavior in adults has been found in many studies. In adolescents, this relationship is still controversial. Several studies point out that irritability is a key symptom in adolescent depressed. Few studies have analyzed precisely the kind of aggressive behavior. This study sets out to assess the relationship between aggressive behavior and depressive affects in adolescents. We also pay attention in this population to hopelessness feelings, anxiety, global functioning and the type of aggressive behavior. METHOD: This is a descriptive an

Descriptive analysis of the context of child sexual abuse reportedly perpetrated by female suspects: Insights from Saint Mary's Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

BACKGROUND: Determining the prevalence and characteristics of female-perpetrated child sexual abuse (CSA) is fraught with difficultly. There is a historical lack of empirical research and a discrepancy between the number of cases that reach the attention of the authorities and its suspected prevalence in society. It is also noted that for a myriad of reasons many CSA reports do not progress through the criminal justice process so many remain as allegations rather than proven or disproven crimes. OBJECTIVES: The study set out to answer the research questions: 'What are the characteristics and

To treat or not to treat, that is the question: proceedings of the Quebec symposium for the treatment of osteoporosis in long-term care institutions, Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, November 5, 2004.

OBJECTIVES: Patients in long-term care institutions (LTCI) are especially at risk for osteoporotic fractures owing to their lack of mobility, poor nutrition, and limited sun exposure. Previous reports have shown that osteoporosis is underdiagnosed and undertreated in LTCI despite the high incidence of osteoporotic fractures in these settings. This document has been developed to assist clinicians practicing in LTCI with the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis in their institutionalized patients. These proceedings offer an overview of the particular characteristics of patients at LTCI. Manag

[French recommendations for clinical practice, Nice/Saint-Paul-de-Vence 2024-2025: Management of high-grade ovarian epithelial cancer].

The evolution of serous high grade ovarian cancer management is characterized by a more regulated patients' journey on the one hand and the development of new therapeutic options on the other hand, the selection of which is guided by tumor molecular characteristics. Surgery remains the cornerstone of treatment. It can be performed only in authorized expert sites that can demonstrate sufficient experience from highly skilled surgical teams, and quality criteria including prehabilitation and rehabilitation programs. The diagnostic step is crucial; it comprises multiple biopsies that allow reliab

Morphological and Radiologic Features of the Skull of a Juvenile Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas, Linnaeus, 1758) from Saint Kitts and Nevis, West Indies.

The skull of a juvenile Chelonia mydas from the beaches of Saint Kitts and Nevis is described using high-resolution photographs and multi-angle radiographs to document the main cranial structures. Standard veterinary anatomical terminology was used, and osteometric measurements were obtained and compared with published data on adult individuals. The investigated juvenile green turtle skull comprises three main regions: the neurocranium, splanchnocranium, and mandible. Noteworthy features include a paired premaxilla at the snout tip, a prominent L-shaped maxilla forming much of the upper jaw, a
