BACKGROUND: Hypertension is the leading cause of premature death globally, and acute decompensated heart failure is among the most common causes of hospitalization. Both conditions are adversely affected by high dietary sodium intake. In contrast, potassium has been shown to lower blood pressure. Substituting dietary sodium with potassium may therefore reduce morbidity and mortality associated with hypertension and possibly heart failure.
OBJECTIVES: This review summarizes the current evidence on the cardiovascular effects of dietary sodium and potassium-containing salts.

We report the synthesis of hexafluorophosphate (PF6-) salts directly from white phosphorus (P4) and simple fluorides MF (M = Li, Na, K, Cs, NMe4) in a single step. The utilization of p-quinones, such as 2,3-dichloro-4,5-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) offers a selective fluorination pathway, which affords MPF6 salts in up to 95% yield in acetonitrile (MeCN). A mild and efficient synthesis of various aryl sulfonyl fluorides from diaryliodonium salts under organophotocatalysis via a radical sulfur dioxide insertion and fluorination strategy is presented. Diaryliodonium salts are used as aryl radical precursors, the 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bis(sulfur dioxide) adduct (DABSO) as a sulfonyl source and cheap KHF2 as a desirable fluorine source, respectively. Notably, the electronic properties of substituents on the aromatic rings in diaryliodonium salts have a significant influence on the reaction yields.

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is the most severe clinical form of leishmaniasis, being fatal if untreated. In search of a more effective treatment for VL, one of the main strategies is the development and screening of new antileishmanial compounds. The open-shell iron pentacarbonyl cation [Fe(CO)5 ].+ was isolated by deelectronation, i.e., the single-electron oxidation of the parent neutral Fe(CO)5 using [phenazineF ].+ as the [Al(ORF )4 ]- and [F-{Al(ORF )3 }2 ]- salt (RF =C(CF3 )3 ; phenazineF =perfluoro-5,10-bis(perfluorophenyl)-5,10-dihydrophenazine). [Fe(CO)5 ].+ [Al(ORF )4 ]- was fully characterized (scXRD analysis, IR, NMR, EPR, 57 Fe spectroscopy, CV and SQUID magnetization study) and, apart from being a compound of fundamental interest, may serve as a precursor for low-valent iron coordination chemistry.

In recent decades, pentazolate salts have gained considerable attention as high energy density materials (HEDMs). Using the machine-learning accelerated structure searching method, we predicted four pentazolate salts stabilized with tetravalent metals (Ti-N and Zr-N). Specifically, the ground state MN 20 (M = Ti, Zr) adopts the space-group P4/mcc under ambient conditions, transforming into the I-4 phase at higher pressure.
