Ewing's Sarcoma of Mandible: A Case Report with Review of Literature.

BACKGROUND: Ewing sarcoma (ES), a rare malignancy, comprises whatever the age, 4-15% of all primary bone tumors. It represents 1% of all malignant tumors in children and is the fourth most common bone malignancy after myeloma, osteosarcoma, and chondrosarcoma. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 12-year-old boy came to the Oral Surgery Department of Bretonneau Hospital referred by his dentist with a rapidly evolving swelling in the left mandibula for 6 weeks, which was initially diagnosed as a facial cellulitis. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) showed a poorly defined, expansile, and osteolytic tumor on

[Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma of the parapharyngeal space: a case report].

Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma is a malignant tumour most often found in children and adolescents, but rarely in the cervicofacial region. When it affects the parapharyngeal space, diagnosis is often delayed, resulting in poor prognosis. We here report the clinical case of a 37-year-old female patient admitted to the emergency department with inspiratory dyspnea, asthenia and anorexia. Cervical spine MRI revealed a process in the right parapharyngeal space obstructing almost the entire pharyngeal lumen. Anatomopathological, immunohistochemical and cytogenetic examinations showed extraskeletal E

Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma of supraglottis: A rare case report.

Ewing's Sarcoma family of tumors is a group of small round tumor cells. Ewing's sarcoma majority occurs in bone, accounts about 10 % of primary bone tumors. Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma (ESS) is unusual and commonly seen in trunk, paravertebral, and chest wall region. It is rarely seen in head and neck region, accounting to 2-3 %. In head and neck region, ESS is seen in nasal or oral cavities, sinuses. EES originating in the larynx is very rare. Here, we report a 22 years old female having the complaints of change in voice and noisy breathing who was diagnosed as a case of EES of supraglottis

Ewing's Sarcoma Presenting in the Paranasal Sinus - A Case Report.

RATIONALE: The aim of this study is to raise awareness among dentists regarding a potential outcome associated with the rapid growth of facial swellings. PATIENT CONCERNS: We present a case of Ewing's sarcoma (ES) in a 23-year-old male who presented with a rapidly progressive swelling in the left maxillary region over six weeks. DIAGNOSIS: There was no significant intraoral dental finding other than a missing left upper first molar. Panoramic imaging initially suggested chronic sinusitis, but the swelling persisted despite treatment. A subsequent cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan rev

Ewing's Sarcoma of the Orbit: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a malignant small round cell neuroectodermal tumour primarily affecting children in the first and second decade of life. Since ES is difficult to control, early diagnosis is crucial, and the treatment requires a multimodality approach constituting chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. Here, we present a case of ES of orbit in a 17-year-old female diagnosed in 2021. This case report focuses on the clinicopathological presentation and management principles of this rare manifestation of the disease that unilaterally infiltrated into the extraconal space of the orbit as w

Ureteral Ewing's sarcoma in an elderly woman: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is regarded as a skeletal tumor, with few instances of extra-skeletal ES. A primary ES in the ureter is extremely rare. CASE SUMMARY: We report the case of a 69-year-old woman who presented with intermittent flank pain and hematuria and was found to have a mass in the left ureter. Pathology of the excised mass indicated ES. The clinical treatment and pathologic characteristics in this case, and a review of the literature describing ES in the urinary system, are presented. CONCLUSION: Due to the rarity and malignancy of ES in ureter, early diagnosis and prompt

Primary Ewing's Sarcoma of the Sinonasal Tract: A Case Report.

A 23-year-old male presented with a 3-month history of left purulent rhinorrhea, progressive nasal obstruction, and intermittent epistaxis. A fiberoptic examination revealed a large vascular polypoid mass completely filling the left nasal cavity. CT and MRI scans showed a large hypervascular mass involving the left nasal airway, maxillary antrum, and the anterior ethmoid cells. There was no bony erosion or contiguous spread, and the remaining sinuses, orbit, and cranial fossa were uninvolved. The patient underwent complete removal of the mass via an external lateral rhinotomy approach. The sof

Primary Occipital Ewing's Sarcoma with Subsequent Spinal Seeding.

Ewing's sarcoma is a primary bone cancer that mainly affects the long bones. This malignancy is particularly common in pediatric patients. Primary cranial involvement accounts for 1% of cases, with occipital involvement considered extremely rare. In this case study, primary occipital Ewing's sarcoma with a posterior fossa mass and subsequent relapse resulting in spinal seeding is reported. A 3-year-old patient presented with a 1-year history of left-sided headaches, localized over the occipital bone with progressive torticollis. Computed tomography (CT) imaging showed a mass in the left poster

Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma presenting as a posterior mediastinal mass.

The Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors is an uncommon group of malignant neoplasms that may be located in both skeletal and extraskeletal regions. Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma (EES) is quite rare and predominantly involves the soft tissues of the trunk or the extremities. Herein, we report the case of a 19-year-old female patient who complained of left arm pain. Simple chest radiography revealed an opacity occupying almost the entire left hemithorax. Diagnostic imaging techniques demonstrated a solid contrast-enhanced mass in the posterior mediastinum. There was an evident mediastinal shift, an

Coccidioides immitis osteomyelitis of the radius presenting as Ewing's sarcoma.

Coccidioides immitis osteomyelitis is a relatively rare manifestation of a disease that most commonly presents with pulmonary infection. Disseminated disease occurs in approximately 1% of infected individuals, with bony involvement in 10% to 50% of those patients with extrapulmonary infection. Diagnosis and treatment of patients with primarily osteoarticular complaints is frequently delayed, which may result in progression of disease and suboptimal results. This article discusses the successful treatment of a patient whose initial presentation was suggestive of Ewing's sarcoma of the proximal

Cellular and humoral mechanisms of osteoclast formation in Ewing's sarcoma.

Cellular mechanisms that account for tumour osteolysis associated with Ewing's sarcoma are uncertain. Osteoclasts are marrow-derived multinucleated cells (MNCs) that effect tumour osteolysis. Osteoclasts are known to form from macrophages by both receptor activator for nuclear factor-kappaB (RANK) ligand (RANKL)-dependent and -independent mechanisms. In this study, our aim has been to determine whether tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs) isolated from Ewing's sarcoma are capable of differentiating into osteoclasts and to characterise the cellular and humoral mechanisms whereby this occurs. [Adrenal metastases of Ewing's sarcoma. Report of one case].

Adrenal metastases are more frequent than primary adrenal carcinoma. The most frequent are, in this order: breast and lung cancer, stomach and kidney carcinomas, adrenal gland contralateral tumors and melanoma. Less frequent are tumours of the bladder, colon, esophagus, gall bladder, liver, pancreas, prostate, stomach and uterus. The rest of the tumours rarely spread toward adrenal glands. The metastases to the adrenal glands caused by sarcomas are rare and normally they happen in the contest of a massive metastases affecting several organs at the same time. We present a case of a patient affe

The first report of extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma in the rectovaginal septum.

AIMS AND BACKGROUND: To report an extremely rare case of Ewing's sarcoma located in the rectovaginal septum. Ewing's sarcoma is a highly malignant neoplasm of bone, which usually occurs during childhood. Common extraosseous localizations of Ewing's sarcoma include the trunk, extremities, uterus, cervix and vagina. METHODS: A 45-year-old woman presented to us with a six-month history of pain in the lower abdomen during intercourse. Pelvic examination was performed and a palpable mass was found. The mass had a size of 9 x 6 cm, a soft tissue consistency, was partially movable and the patient fe

[Ultrasound monitoring of bone lesions in the treatment of Ewing's sarcoma].

In the paper, a patient suffering from Ewing's sarcoma is presented. She was treated with chemo- and radiotherapy. As one of the methods of monitoring of the course of treatment and follow-up after finishing it has been ultrasound examination. In the ultrasound examination I have observed gradual diminishing of the tumor, up to it's complete disappearance. In the bone there have remained only two small hyper-echogenic focuses not changing their shape or size. At the beginning in Doppler examination a large arterial flow was found in the tumor, having low vessel resistance. In the course of tre

[Ewing's sarcoma of the bone. Anatomoclinical study of 424 cases].

The clinic-epidemiologic and prognostic features of 424 cases of Ewing sarcoma observed at "Rizzoli" Institute between 1972-1990 are reported. The incidence of the tumor was higher in the second decade of life with slight predominance in the male sex. The primary lesion was especially localized in the extremity and the ratio lower/upper extremity was 5/1. We did not find, in contrast with other Authors, differences in height or in incidence of congenital malformations when compared to controls. The pain was the first common symptom at debut (90%) followed by swelling (50%) and fever (40%). Dia
