The proposed method for treating dacryocanaliculitis consists in removal of the pathological contents blocking the lumen of the involved canaliculus. The operation is similar to activation of the lacrimal canal. Canalicular wall mucosa is treated with silver nitrate or iodine through a special probe applicator. Forty-two patients were treated by this method with good results.

This presentation reviews the course of burn wound sepsis in a group of 621 acute patients treated at the Shriners Burns Institute, Cincinnati Unit, between 1970 and 1976. During this period of time, the overall mortality rate fell from 14% in 1970 to 3 and 5%, respectively, in 1975 and 1976. Staphylococcus aureus was the most commonly recovered organism from the burn wound, colonizing 85% of the burn patients. This study presents the effects of Cr, Pb, Ni and Ag on growth, pigments, protein, DNA, RNA, heterocyst frequency, uptake of NH4+ and NO3-, loss of electrolytes (Na+ and K+), nitrate reductase and glutamine synthetase activities of Nostoc muscorum. The reaction of primary amines with the T2 diazonium resin generates polymer-bound triazenes, which can in turn be acylated by the addition of isothiocyanate. The formed thioureas are readily transformed into the corresponding guanidines by the reaction with amines in the presence of mercury(II) oxide, tosyl chloride, or silver nitrate. This reaction sequence furnishes trisubstituted guanidines that are potentially useful pharmacophores.

We describe mycetoma caused by Microsporum canis occurring in a 9-year-old African-American girl. Pathologic evaluation showed a granulomatous dermatitis with numerous large fungal grains containing septate hyphae that were Fontana-Masson positive. Two cultures of pure grains grew M. canis. Mycetoma due to dermatophytes is very uncommon. The few instances reported have been pseudomycetoma (grains in the absence of sinus tracts). Our patient developed sinus tracts (true mycetoma). OBJECTIVE: To observe the morphologic character of the corneal neovascularization in experimental rabbits and also compare it with the morphology of that after irradiation with beta-rays.
METHODS: A model of new blood vessels on the corneas of New Zealand rabbits was established with silver nitrate burning. The growth character of the neovascularization was compared between the irradiated and non-irradiated groups.
