The aims of this study were to evaluate the physiological stress and anxiety responses in children with autism following completion of a standardized, social-evaluative stressor (Trier Social Stress Test-Child version), document the relationship between verbal ability, stress, and anxiety, and determine the association between stress and anxiety in children with autism and typical development. Results demonstrated the Trier Social Stress Test-Child version to be a benign stressor for children with autism. Lower verbal ability in children with autism did not predict salivary cortisol or anxiety

BACKGROUND: Mental disorders including anxiety and depression are common comorbidities in fibromyalgia patients, and exert a profound impact on their quality of life. Mirogabalin, a novel ligand for the α2δ-subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels, shows analgesic effects in fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain models. To provide additional information regarding its potential utility for treating chronic pain, we examined its anxiolytic-like effects in rats repeatedly injected with acidic saline intramuscularly (Sluka model), as an experimental fibromyalgia model.

Depression and anxiety are two affective disorders that greatly threaten the mental health of a large population worldwide. Previous studies have shown that brain-derived neurotrophic factor precursor (proBDNF) is involved in the development of depression. However, it is still elusive whether proBDNF is involved in anxiety, and if so, which brain regions of proBDNF regulate these two affective disorders. The present study aims to investigate the role of proBDNF in the hippocampus in the development of depression and anxiety. Rat models of an anxiety-like phenotype and depression-like phenotype

Developmental prosopagnosia (DP) is a condition that indicates the inability to recognize individuals by their faces from birth, without any history of brain damage. The assessment of face recognition ability and diagnosis of DP involve the use of face tests such as the Cambridge Face Memory Test (CFMT) and the Cambridge Face Perception Test, along with self-reported measures like the 20-Item Prosopagnosia Index (PI20). Face recognition accuracy is affected by anxiety. However, previous studies on the relationship between face recognition ability and anxiety have not used the PI20 measure. Thi

Despite the prevalence of anxiety disorders, the molecular identity of neural circuits underlying anxiety remains unclear. The lateral hypothalamus (LH) is one brain region implicated in the regulation of anxiety, and our recent data found that chemogenetic activation of LH galanin neurons attenuated the stress response to a novel environment as measured by the marble burying test. Thus, we hypothesize that LH galanin neurons may contribute to anxiety-related behavior. We used chemogenetics and fiber photometry to test the ability of LH galanin neurons to influence anxiety and stress-related b

BACKGROUND: Sleep disorders are accompanied by increased anxiety and somatic pain. In addition, it has been observed that anxiety and pain have a boosting effect on each other, resulting in continued sleep disturbances. Amygdala's (CeA) central nucleus plays a crucial role in these processes. Cinnamaldehyde (Cinn) is an aromatic compound with anti-anxiety, antioxidant, and sleep-promoting properties. The present study uses sleep-deprived rats to examine the effects of an intra-CeA injection of Cinn on pain and anxiety.
METHODS: Sleep deprivation (SD) was induced using the platform technique.

Anxiety is a common symptom is vertigo patients. ACute anxiety is known in neurology and psychiatry as panic disorder. The cardiovascular and the gastrointestinal subtypes have been used in the classification of panic disorders up to now. Frommberger and co-workers (1993) have also defined a vestibular subtype. In this study, we have compared the neurotologic test results of 53 patients with vertigo in combination with panic disorder and of 53 patients with balance disorders without anxiety to clarify, whether disturbances in the vestibular systems can be objectivated or not. Olfactory loss, motor impairment, anxiety/depression, and REM-sleep behaviour disorder (RBD) are prodromal Parkinson's disease (PD) features. PD risk prediction models typically dichotomize test results and apply likelihood ratios (LRs) to scores above and below cut-offs. We investigate whether LRs for specific test values could enhance classification between PD and controls. PD patient data on smell (UPSIT), possible RBD (RBD Screening Questionnaire), and anxiety/depression (LADS) were taken from the Tracking Parkinson's study (n = 1046). For motor impairment (BRAIN test) in PD cases, publish

One of the common causes of ear pain (Otalgia) in children is the pain felt in the temporomandibular region due to bruxism, usually accompanied by stress and anxiety. The diagnosis and treatment of anxiety at an early age will affect the future lives of children. Our aim in the study was to investigate the presence and subtypes of anxiety in children with otalgia due to bruxism. In our study, 86 children aged between 6 and 16 years old who had ear pain and whose pain and tenderness were detected in the temporomandibular joint area and 40 healthy children were included as the control group. This review covers the effect of drugs affecting anxiety using four psychological procedures for inducing experimental anxiety applied to healthy volunteers and patients with anxiety disorders. The first is aversive conditioning of the skin conductance responses to tones. The second is simulated public speaking, which consists of speaking in front of a video camera, with anxiety being measured with psychometric scales. The third is the Stroop Color-Word test, in which words naming colors are painted in the same or in a different shade, the incongruence generating a cognitive conflict. The last
