Current aspects of restoring traumatically fractured teeth.

Endodontic and restorative considerations are of primary significance in the treatment of tooth fractures. Since exposed dentinal tubules permit invasion of bacteria into the endodontic system, a protective dressing must be applied as part of the emergency treatment. Provided the dentin wound has been sealed, restorative treatment can also be carried out at a later stage. The fractured tooth fragment can be reattached using adhesive protocols in order to restore function and esthetic appearance. If reattachment is difficult or impossible, eg, in cases of multiple or missing fragments, current

Combined technique with glass-fibre-reinforced composite post and original fragment in restoration of traumatized anterior teeth--a case report.

Dentoalveolar trauma is frequently encountered by dental practitioners. In some instances, saving a child's traumatized permanent teeth can create difficulties for the child, the parents and the dentist. Reattachment of a crown fragment is a conservative treatment that should be considered for crown fractures of anterior teeth. This case describes the clinical reattachment of an original tooth fragment. A 10-year-old male presented at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry with a complex crown fracture of the left maxillary central incisor 1 day after the trauma occurred. Following endodontic t

Forced eruption for preservation of a deeply fractured molar.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of deeply fractured and irreparably damaged teeth often confronts the dentist with a complex problem: Besides extraction, re-implantation and surgical crown lengthening, forced eruption is a reasonable differential alternative. HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS: In the following case a second lower molar was deeply fractured as a result of an internal granuloma. The tooth had undergone endodontic treatment and had been shortened to alveolar bone level, as the patient had refused extraction. THERAPY: A forced eruption with fibrotomy was performed using an unphysiological

Evaluation of Surface Roughness and Microbial Adhesion of Primary Esthetic Crowns: An In Vitro Study.

BACKGROUND: Surface roughness plays a crucial role in microbial adhesion and retention on dental crowns, contributing to secondary infections and the development of periodontal diseases through bacterial plaque accumulation. In treating pulpitis of primary teeth via pulpectomy, dental crowns are often used as full-coverage restorative solutions. Among the most widely utilized crowns are stainless steel and zirconia crowns. However, zirconia crowns present drawbacks, such as excessive tooth reduction and increased wear on opposing teeth, while stainless steel crowns (SSCs) pose esthetic limitat

A retrospective study of the fit of jacket crowns placed around gold posts and cores, and the associated gingival health.

A retrospective study has been carried out of the marginal fit and associated gingival health of jacket crowns placed around gold posts 5 years previously. Crown fit was classified as either visibly or palpably satisfactory, overhanging or deficient. 67.2% of crowns showed one or more discrepancies of marginal fit, and this varied with the position around the tooth. Palatal margins of maxillary porcelain jacket crowns fitted poorly and there was frequent caries at this site. Periodontal pocketing developed mesially and distally, and little gingival recession. In contrast gingival recession, ex

In vitro study of fracture load and fracture pattern of ceramic crowns: a finite element and fractography analysis.

PURPOSE: This in vitro study investigated the null hypothesis that metal-free crowns induce fracture loads and mechanical behavior similar to metal ceramic systems and to study the fracture pattern of ceramic crowns under compressive loads using finite element and fractography analyses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six groups (n = 8) with crowns from different systems were compared: conventional metal ceramic (Noritake) (CMC); modified metal ceramic (Noritake) (MMC); lithium disilicate-reinforced ceramic (IPS Empress II) (EMP); leucite-reinforced ceramic (Cergogold) (CERG); leucite fluoride-apatite

All-ceramic crowns on modified CeraOne abutments: a case report.

Single-tooth implants were used to replace congenitally absent maxillary lateral incisors in a 17-year-old patient. The inclination of the alveolar process caused a severe discrepancy between the axes of the planned implant and the crown. To avoid the need for a labial screw opening in the crown or labial overcontouring, a CeraOne abutment of the Brånemark system was modified by selective grinding in the dental laboratory. Individual all-ceramic crowns were fabricated with the Celay In-Ceram system.

Dental adaptations of Bronze Age Harappans: Occlusal wear, crown size, and dental pathology.

Systematic study of dental attributes yields insights regarding diet and subsistence that cannot be gained from the archaeological record alone. This analysis documents occlusal tooth wear, tooth crown dimensions and dental pathology of an expanded dental sample from Harappa (2550-2030cal BC; Pakistan). New floral and faunal evidence of subsistence indicates a mix of agriculture and pastoralism that can be integrated with evidence of dental attributes and disease to reveal the impact of Harappan diet on oral health. An enlarged dental sample (58 specimens, 910 teeth) from mature phase Harappa …

Tooth preparation and pulp degeneration.

Conscious attention must be directed toward providing atraumatic tooth preparations for crowns, and to constructing adequate provisional restorations. If meticulous care is not taken, pulpal damage or death can occur. Patients should be warned that pulpal death and endodontic therapy can result from crown placement.

The Agreement Between Preoperative Digital Radiographic Measurements and Clinically Fitted Stainless Steel Crown Size in Primary Molars: A Retrospective Study.

Background/Objectives: Accurate selection of stainless steel crown (SSC) size is essential for successful restoration of primary molars. Conventional crown selection relies on a trial-and-error approach, which may increase chair time and reduce clinical efficiency. Preoperative digital radiographic measurements may provide an objective adjunct for predicting SSC size; however, evidence supporting their agreement with clinically selected crown sizes remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the agreement between preoperative digital radiographic measurements and clinically fitted SSC size i

A case of abnormal supernumerary teeth in nasopalatine canal: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Supernumerary teeth are a number anomaly that refers to excess teeth that do not belong to the normal dentition. It can occur anywhere in the upper and lower jaw, the most common location being the upper anterior teeth. Most of the supernumerary teeth are similar in shape to adjacent normal teeth. This report describes a case of multiple embedded supernumerary teeth in the anterior maxillary area. The patient was an 8-year-old male child. He had two supernumerary teeth located in the anterior maxillary area, one of which was conical and regular in shape; the other was located on th

Conservative treatment of complicated oblique crown-root fractures of molars: a report of five representative cases.

The five cases presented here describe a conservative treatment procedure for complicated crown-root fractures of molars with extensive loss of tooth structure. After the mobile crown-root fragments were extracted, the remaining crowns were restored at the juxtagingival level. The follow-up time ranged from two years, seven months, to four years. At the follow-up examinations, all of the teeth were asymptomatic and had healthy clinical appearances. There was no evidence of pockets related to fractures. The results of these cases show that complete periodontal healing is possible with conservat

Conservative management of a rootless premolar: a case report with 4-year follow-up.

Any disturbance in the primary tooth can lead to an altered eruption pattern of the corresponding permanent tooth. This article presents a case of a carious permanent second premolar with an immature root that erupted prematurely following extraction of the infected primary second molar. The carious premolar was treated with a stepwise excavation, and a primary stainless steel crown was adapted to prevent microleakage and restoration failure. A follow-up evaluation at 4 years showed remarkable healing and complete root formation. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first case report in the
