Two groups of young men taking part in a 24-day training course involving increasingly severe exercise were studied. Serum myoglobin, creatine kinase, creatine kinase-MB, transaminases, lactate dehydrogenase, urea, creatinine, calcium and uric acid were estimated at intervals. During the first few days, increases in myoglobin and muscle enzymes correlated with the severity of the preceding exercise. Glycogenic hepatopathy (GH) is an under-recognised complication of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) not controlled to target resulting in hepatomegaly and elevated liver transaminases. We report the case of a 19-year-old man with T1DM not controlled to target who presented with abdominal pain, hepatomegaly and deranged liver transaminases. He was subsequently diagnosed with GH on liver biopsy, with the mainstay of treatment being reduction in caloric intake and insulin.

In the present study, we have identified an ω-transaminase (ω-TA) from Chloroflexi bacterium from the genome database by using two ω-TA sequences (ATA117 Arrmut11 from Arthrobacter sp. KNK168 and amine transaminase from Aspergillus terreus NIH2624) as templates in a BLASTP search and motif sequence alignment.
