Integration of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga: Expert Opinion via Delphi Methodology.

Previous research has started to explore the theoretical foundations and possible integration of yoga and psychotherapy to provide holistic approaches for health and healing. We proposed the integration of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY), both of which are empirically supported treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms. Experts with training as certified DBT therapists (nRound 1 = 25) or TCTSY facilitators (nRound 1 = 46) were recruited to complete three online surveys to rate statements and complete open-ended questions regarding

The Golden Hour is elusive in rural trauma: A 10-year analysis from a Level I trauma center in Montana.

BACKGROUND: The "Golden Hour" represents the critical period following traumatic injury when timely definitive care is essential for survival. Although most U.S. residents live within 60 min of a Level I or II trauma center, rural populations face greater challenges in accessing such care. This study evaluated trauma transfer patterns and outcomes in Montana and neighboring rural regions. METHODS: A 10-year retrospective review (2012-2022) was conducted at a rural Level I trauma center. Patients were excluded if they lacked a documented injury time, had an Injury Severity Score (ISS) of 75, o

Association Between Pelvic Injury and Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy in Severe Trauma Patients: A Retrospective Single-Center Study.

Background/Objectives: Pelvic injuries are frequently associated with severe hemorrhage and may contribute to early trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC). Whether pelvic injury is independently associated with TIC beyond overall injury severity remains unclear. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between pelvic injury and TIC in severe trauma patients. Methods: We conducted a retrospective single-center study including adult severe trauma patients (injury severity score > 15) admitted between January 2012 and July 2020. Patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injur

Trauma Center Type and Outcomes After Pediatric Blunt Pancreatic Injury: A National Trauma Data Bank Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The management of blunt pancreatic trauma in pediatric patients has evolved with the establishment of designated pediatric trauma centers. Given that pancreatic injuries frequently occur alongside other major injuries, studies specifically assessing outcomes remain limited. We compared outcomes for children with blunt pancreatic injury treated at pediatric versus nonpediatric trauma centers. METHODS: Using the National Trauma Data Bank (2017-2023), we identified trauma patients aged ≤18 y with blunt pancreatic injury. Patients transferred out and those with severe nonabdominal i…

Post-operative opioid utilization after surgery for spinal trauma: a retrospective study at a level 1 trauma center.

BACKGROUND: Although prior studies have laid the groundwork in establishing a better understanding of opioid use in spine trauma patients, additional clarity is needed on injury-specific factors that may predispose to higher or longer-term opioid use in this population. This study aims to identify clinical and neurological predictors-both modifiable and non-modifiable-of postoperative opioid utilization and weaning among patients undergoing surgery for traumatic spinal injuries. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted of consecutive adults who underwent surgery for traumatic spine

Design and Retrospective Application of a Spine Trauma DVT Prophylaxis Protocol on Level 1 Trauma Center Patient Database.

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic literature review. OBJECTIVES: The impact of thromboembolic disease on the morbidity and mortality of patients with acute spinal cord injury is well documented, with rates as high as 67%-100% among untreated patients. The efficacy of mechanical prophylaxis as a stand-alone measure has been questioned, so we sought to determine a safe perioperative window for chemical anticoagulation use after spine surgery. Many surgeons have concerns anticoagulants may cause post-operative hematoma. METHODS: A systematic literature review was performed, ultimately yielding 13 articl
