A male in his 30s underwent retroperitoneal mass excision. A T8-T9 epidural catheter was placed for postoperative analgesia, infusing 0.0625% bupivacaine and 2 µg/mL fentanyl at 8 mL/h. That evening, the patient left against medical advice (AMA) while declining epidural catheter removal. The patient returned 2.5 hours later for an uneventful epidural removal. Risky sexual behavior is a serious public health problem. Child sexual abuse is an established risk factor, but other forms of maltreatment appear to elevate risky behavior. Interest in a free breast self-examination (BSE) teaching program offered to a patient population (n = 1590) was assessed, and a follow-up survey of refusers undertaken to determine difference between participants and refusers. OBJECTIVE: To compare two strategies of patient recruitment, waiting room (WR) screening and screening after physician referral (PR), for participation in a treatment-outcome study of minor depression and dysthymia in primary care. The influence of demographic factors on patients' refusal to participate in WR screening was also examined.
METHOD: Of a convenience sample of 3,344 first stage patients, a total of 609 patients were evaluated in a semi-structured manner using a two-stage screening procedure from the mood module of the Primary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders (PRIME-MD).

AIM: Assess reasons individuals with chronic schizophrenia in rural communities of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) often remain untreated.
METHOD: Reported reasons for the non-treatment of 201 community-dwelling individuals with untreated chronic schizophrenia (mean duration of illness, 23.3 years) in rural China were obtained from patients and caregivers. A 7-day-old baby boy born by lower segment caesarean section as term appropriate for gestational age was admitted with the complaint of fever, lethargy, and refusal to feed. The baby was put on antibiotic treatment for sepsis and meningitis. On the 15th day of the treatment, he developed lower motor neuron paralysis of both lower limbs along with sensory deficit. He also had bladder and fecal incontinence. Magnetic resonance imaging of spine showed spinal epidural lipomatosis extending from T8 to L5 with maximum compression of theca at L3-L4 level.
