The Influence of Personality Type on Patient Outcome Measures and Therapeutic Alliance in Patients with Low Back Pain.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP) has been shown to have various biological, psychological, and social factors that affect prognosis. However, it is unclear how personality may influence self-reported outcome measures and therapeutic alliance (TA). METHODS: Eysenck's personality inventory was used to assess personality, while the numeric pain rating scale (NPRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), Global Rating of Change (GROC), and the Working Alliance Inventory (WAI) measured patient progress and relationship strength. All outcome measures were formulated in

Association of Type D personality to perceived side effects and adherence in CPAP-treated patients with OSAS.

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the treatment of choice for obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS), but side effects are common and long-term adherence low. The Type D (distressed) personality is defined as a combination of negative affectivity and social inhibition. The association of Type D personality with adherence has not been studied in CPAP-treated patients with OSAS. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of Type D personality in OSAS patients with CPAP treatment longer than 6 months and the association with self-reported side effects and adherence. A cross-section

Person drawings by transsexual clients, psychiatric clients, and nonclients compared: indicators of sex-typing and pathology.

The drawings by 31 transsexual clients, 61 psychiatric inpatients, and 62 nonclient college students were compared to derive information about whether they differed with regard to sex-typing and psychopathology. Transsexuals did not differ from nonclients or psychiatric patients as far as their conceptualization of masculinity is concerned, nor are they more or less sex-role stereotyped. However, their conceptualization of femininity of women differs significantly from that of the other groups in that transsexuals view women as more feminine than either of the other groups. Finally, transsexua

Association of Type D Personality and Anatomical Complexity as Predictors of Long-Term Mortality in Coronary Artery Disease: A Retrospective Case Study Based on Hospital Records.

Background: Traditional cardiovascular risk models often overlook "residual risk" driven by psychopathological factors. This study investigates the exploratory prognostic baseline associations of Type D personality (TDP) and specific symptomatic dimensions with long-term all-cause mortality in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods: We conducted a retrospective case study based on hospital records evaluating 221 patients with confirmed CAD. Anatomical complexity was quantified via the SYNTAX Score (SS). Psychological profiling utilized the DS14 scale for TDP and the SCL-90 for gr

Toward Personalized Medicine in Type 1 Diabetes: Understanding How Patient Heterogeneity Influences Therapeutic Efficacy.

Pharmacologic interventions for type 1 diabetes (T1D) have advanced significantly in recent years with the advent of the first FDA approved therapy teplizumab for delaying symptomatic disease onset in 2022. Despite this progress, major hurdles remain in moving toward personalized medicine approaches for T1D. Here, we highlight the examples of heterogeneity in therapeutic responses to recent beta cell and immune interventions and what these studies can teach us about how to tailor therapy for maximizing benefit to patients at risk of or living with T1D. We examine the differences between propos

Sex-specific differences in overnight nitrate levels in persons with obstructive sleep apnea and type 2 diabetes.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Sex-specific differences in OSA-associated symptoms and polysomnographic findings are well recognized. However, sex differences in intermediate pathways potentially linking OSA and cardiometabolic outcomes are limited. OSA is known to be associated with decreased nitric oxide (NO)-related vasodilation and endothelial dysfunction. The current study sought to characterize the independent association between OSA severity and overnight NO metabolites (i.e. markers of oxidative stress) and determine if there were differences by sex in persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
