The Allium Bulbar Urethral Stent (BUS) is a fully covered, self-expandable, large caliber metal stent specially designed for the treatment of bulbar urethra strictures. The stent is intended for a long term use for the purpose of opening the occluded urethral passage and to allow spontaneous urination. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical effect of urethral dilation with a zebra guidewire-guided fascia dilator in the treatment of complex urethral stricture after hypospadias surgery.
METHODS: This study included 12 cases of complex urethral stricture after hypospadias surgery that had failed to respond to other urethral dilation therapies. A zebra guidewire was put into the urethra via a ureteroscope placed in through a suprapubic puncture hole. Then a fascia dilator was inserted along the zebra guidewire for urethral dilation. A silicone catheter was reserved for 2 weeks after the dilation.

Retrograde transurethral balloon dilatation of urethral stenosis was performed in five patients: four patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy and one with urethral stricture following open prostatectomy. Significant resolution of symptoms of dysuria was seen in four patients throughout the follow-up period of 12 to 18 months. We describe the results after implantation of a urethral stent in 6 patients with recurrent urethral strictures. Four patients had strictures located in close vicinity to the external sphincter. In 3 of these 4 patients open urethroplasty procedures had failed. The treatment was successful in 5 of the 6 patients with a follow-up of 6-10 months.
