Vaccines for persons at high risk, 2007.

Morbidity and mortality due to vaccine-preventable diseases are high among persons with underlying medical conditions. Thus, inactivated influenza and pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccines are recommended for individuals with cardiac disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, immunosuppression, and other chronic illnesses. Inactivated influenza vaccine is recommended for pregnant women and for persons with asthma and neuromuscular disease. Palivizumab, a respiratory syncytial virus immunoglobulin preparation, is recommended for certain infants with prematurity and chroni

Vaccination uptake by vaccine-hesitant parents attending a specialist immunization clinic in Australia.

Vaccine hesitancy (VH) is an issue of global concern. The quality of communication between healthcare providers and parents can influence parental immunization acceptance. We aimed to describe immunization uptake following specialist immunization clinic (SIC) consultation for Australian children of VH parents as a cohort, and according to pre-clinic parental position on immunization. At a single tertiary pediatric SIC (RCH, Melbourne) a retrospective descriptive study classified VH families according to 3 proposed parental positions on immunization at initial clinic attendance. Immunization st

Barriers to influenza vaccination during pregnancy in France: A national population-based study.

BACKGROUND: Despite French national recommendations since 2012 that all pregnant women be vaccinated against influenza, in 2021 this vaccine coverage is low - around 30 % - in France. OBJECTIVES: To identify barriers to influenza vaccination during pregnancy by assessing how often women were offered this vaccination and how often they accepted it. STUDY DESIGN: We used data from the French national perinatal survey (ENP), which covered all births during one week in March 2021 (N = 12,614). Data came from medical files and face-to-face postpartum interviews. We excluded women who: refused to

Contextualizing future maternal RSV vaccination acceptance and trust among pregnant and lactating women in Kenya: A latent class analysis.

Maternal vaccination, or vaccination in pregnancy, offers a critical opportunity to provide protection to pregnant women and simultaneously confer passive immunity to infants in the first months of life, when infections are particularly serious and their immune systems are still developing. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is one such serious infectious disease for newborns, but a newly approved and recommended vaccine for respiratory syncytial virus has been designed to be given to pregnant women to protect their newborns from severe RSV disease when they are most vulnerable. While maternal

Evaluation of the national immunisation programme in the Netherlands: immunity to diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, rubella and Haemophilus influenzae type b.

The immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases included in the Dutch immunisation programme in the general population and among orthodox reformed individuals who refuse vaccination was assessed. The programme induces good protection. However, a large proportion of adults lacks diphtheria and tetanus immunity. Measles, mumps and rubella seroprevalence was somewhat lower among vaccinated compared to unvaccinated cohorts. The prevalence of HibPS antibodies declined during 2.5 years after the fourth vaccination. However, protection occurs also by memory immunity. Herd immunity is sufficient among th

Predictors of seasonal influenza vaccination behaviour among nurses and implications for interventions to increase vaccination uptake: A cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Vaccination has been proven the most effective method to prevent seasonal influenza. Nurses' vaccination can provide protection against influenza not only for themselves but also for patients they take care of. However, vaccination coverage of nurses is suboptimal worldwide, especially in China. The influencing factors need to be explored so as to develop specific, workable strategies to improve nurses' vaccination behaviour. OBJECTIVES: To explore predictors of their vaccination behaviour, identify the motivators and barriers of vaccination, and provide implications for future in

Effect of CARD (Comfort-Ask-Relax-Distract) on acceptance of school-based vaccinations: A controlled before and after study.

Injection-related pain and fear are common in children undergoing school-based vaccinations and contribute to vaccine refusal. The CARD system (Comfort Ask Relax Distract) includes interventions that reduce pain and fear. This pragmatic study evaluated CARD's impact on school program-related vaccine uptake using a controlled before and after study design. Altogether, 67 Public and Catholic schools receiving vaccination services from a public health unit in Ontario, Canada, were included. Schools were ranked by vaccination uptake in grade 7 students in 2022-2023. The bottom 29 schools were allo

A qualitative study on barriers and facilitators of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy among pregnant women in Malaysia.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 vaccination is crucial for pregnant women to protect against severe complications during pregnancy. However, vaccine hesitancy and refusal can affect acceptance rates among this vulnerable group, posing risks to both maternal and fetal health. This research was conducted to explore the barriers and facilitators influencing COVID-19 vaccination among Malaysian pregnant women. METHODS: This qualitative study adopted a hermeneutic phenomenological design. Nineteen pregnant women receiving antenatal care at three clinics in Kelantan between February 2024 and June 2024 were pu

Vaccine Hesitancy and Attributions for Autism among Racially and Ethnically Diverse Groups of Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Pilot Study.

Little is known about how racial/ethnic differences may influence attributions for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and subsequent vaccine hesitancy, the latter of which refers to a continuum of concerns about vaccine safety that may lead to vaccine delays and/or refusals. Two hundred and twenty-five parents of children with ASD who were enrolled in the SPARK cohort (Simons Foundation Powering Autism Research for Knowledge) completed the Parent Attitudes about Childhood Vaccines survey and the Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire. 28.9% of respondents (n = 65) were vaccine hesitant (PACV sco
