BACKGROUND: Cardiac consequences of obesity include inflammation, hypertrophy, and compromised energy metabolism. Glucagon-like peptide-1 is an incretin hormone capable of cytoprotective actions that reduces inflammation and endoplasmic reticulum stress in other tissues.
