AIM: To evaluate retinopathy of prematurity (ROP)-related visual impairment in New Zealand children.
METHODS: 22-year retrospective review of medical records of children with moderate to severe visual impairment registered with the Blind and Low Vision Education Network New Zealand. The cohort was divided into two periods (1991-2004; 2005-2012) for analysis.

BACKGROUND: Non-syndromic coronal synostoses oxycephaly and brachycephaly (NSCSOB) are rare. Their natural history, surgical management, and outcome are debated.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We reviewed the available literature on NSCSOB. In addition, we reviewed retrospectively our experience with cases of NSCSOB, managed and operated by our joint craniofacial team since 1984. Newborns underwent perifrontal craniectomy, while infants and older children underwent fronto-orbital advancement with frontoparietal remodeling. Cases with delayed onset of faciosynostosis were excluded.

To assess the natural history of optic pathway tumors (OPT) in children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1), from January 1985 through May 1993 we performed a prospective, longitudinal study of OPT in an unselected population of children with NF-1. Of 227 children with NF-1 seen in a specialty clinic, 176 (77%) underwent neuroimaging. Children in whom tumors were identified were followed closely by both repeated neuroimaging and ophthalmologic examinations to detect tumor growth or visual deterioration.
