We report the clinical presentation, radiography, and management outcomes of autoenucleations (AE). Charts of 7 patients evaluated at 4 institutions with AE were reviewed. Four males and three females had a mean age of 50 years (range 26-72 years). Primary cutaneous signet-ring cell carcinoma (PCSRCC) is a rare but aggressive tumor. Our case highlights a 60-year-old man who presented with eyelid ptosis, for which he underwent multiple surgical procedures over a 3-year period prior to referral to our clinic. These procedures were complicated by scarring, delayed healing, and poor cosmetic outcome. In addition, the patient was noted to develop progressive enophthalmos. PURPOSE: Porous coralline hydroxyapatite orbital implants have been used with great success in anophthalmic sockets. We used a substitute for donor sclera as a wrapping tissue.
METHODS: Orbital implants were wrapped with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) instead of homologous donor tissue in five patients after enucleation.
RESULTS: The postoperative course was uneventful in three cases. Complications occurred in two cases: one with implant exposure, and one with severe implant infection leading to its eventual removal.
CONCLUSIONS: PTFE is inferior to other wrapping tissue.

Most previous reports on survival following enucleation for uveal malignant melanoma do not contain cumulative survival rates, do not use a multivariate approach and are liable to a considerable loss to follow-up. The medical records of 32 horses treated for iris prolapse (IP) during an 8 year period, at the University of Florida Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, were reviewed. Iris prolapse was associated with perforated corneal ulcers in 15 horses (47%), ruptured stromal abscesses in 2 horses (6%), and full thickness corneal lacerations in 15 horses (47%).
