Case Report of the Management of Milk Blebs.

The formation of a milk bleb during breastfeeding is frequently associated with nipple pain that may affect the breastfeeding success of the mother-infant dyad. Early cessation of breastfeeding may occur when pain is ongoing. Timely evaluation and diagnosis and effective management are imperative to prevent tissue damage and lingering symptoms. In this case report, we evaluate the unique challenges of the diagnosis and management of milk blebs, including nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment.

DESIGN: A prospective, controlled cohort analysis. SETTING: A tertiary level mother-child birth and health care center. Fifty Years of the Rise in Cesarean Birth in the United States and Opportunities for Improvement.

Factors that shaped and promoted cultural norms in the 1900s continue to influence current obstetric practice today. The incidence of cesarean birth too often has little to do with the health needs of the woman or the fetus and more to do with multiple factors over which the woman has no control. Nurses and midwives can reduce unnecessary cesarean births and have the necessary knowledge, competence, and skills to help women give birth without medical intervention.

Case Report of Cardiopulmonary Arrest During Pregnancy due to Opioid Overdose.

In the United States, the number of deaths related to overdose of heroin and other opioids, specifically among women of reproductive age, has been rising. This case report adds new knowledge to the limited scientific literature currently available. We describe the care of a 30-year-old pregnant (31.4 weeks gestation) woman who was found unresponsive from a suspected opioid overdose in a friend's home. In response to an unwitnessed cardiopulmonary arrest, the team initiated therapeutic hypothermia 12 hours after the event. Multiple interdisciplinary teams came together to care for this woman an

Research Recommendations on the Effects of Postpartum Depression and Pain on Infant Care and Development.

Postpartum depression is one of the most common complications of childbirth, and another is pain. A growing body of research shows that the severity and duration of postpartum pain can increase a woman's risk for postpartum depression. Postpartum depression and pain negatively affect maternal well-being, and postpartum depression has been associated with adverse outcomes in children. However, there is a dearth of information about the effects of postpartum depression and pain on infant care and development. The objectives of this commentary were to highlight the need to address this gap in the
